And as a bonus for Headlines Roundup:

<a href="http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071119-overly-broad-copyright-law-has-made-us-a-nation-of-infringers.html" rel="nofollow">Overly-broad copyright law has made USA a "nation of infringers"</a>

How many copyright violations does an average user commit in a single day? John Tehranian, a law professor at the University of Utah, calculates in a new paper that he rings up $12.45 million in liability (PDF) over the course of an average day. The gap between what the law allows and what social norms permit is so great now that "we are, technically speaking, a nation of infringers."

....

Singing "Happy Birthday" at a restaurant (unauthorized public performance) and capturing the event on a video camera (unauthorized reproduction) could increase his liability, and that's to say nothing of the copyrighted artwork hanging on the wall behind the dinner table (also captured without authorization by the camera). Tehranian calculates his yearly liability at $4.5 billion.

"...[The] results leave an extremely large elephant in the room-if not for file-sharing, why have record sales declined so precipitously?” (Liebowitz, 2007:1)

Cell phones, video games, the internet, laptops, net radio, satellite radio, DVDs, youtube, crappy product, suing their own customer base, not commercializing the original Napster when they had the chance, DRM, perceiving and treating their customers as enemies, etc, etc, etc...

Yeah. Cops should just arrest everyone with an iPod, or other less girly mp3 player.

They are bound to be listening to copyright infringing music, you know, the music that they might hear freely on their DAB radio in the kitchen or borrow from their sister or the library or choose to listen to from a webcast.

If P2P is killing music, why is it that there seems to be an utter deluge of music these past decades, most of it utter garbage (X-Factor'esgue manufactured poo)

P2P is not illegal.
It is our duty to share the freedom and reject oppression ;)
