Does cyber-crime pay?
p2pnet news | Crime:- Are the odds in favour of a majority of online crooks getting away with their villainy?
That could be the situation in more than just a few instances.
In cyberfraud cases, “unlike traditional white-collar crime, authorities often are unable to identify the suspect until very late in the investigation – at which point a promising case may come to an abrupt halt,” says the Mercury News.
But that’s not the only reason, says the story.
For example, “There’s a fear factor,” the story has Kevin Ryan, former US attorney for the Northern District of California, saying.
In other words, some prosecutors are reluctant to learn what they need to successfully bring charges.
In addition, “Despite the fact that the criminals don’t recognize borders, we do,” says Mitch Dembin, cybercrime prosecutor in California’s Southern District, in the story.
Some countries cooperate, but others “don’t even want to work with us,” he said, and, “Those who suffer large losses in a single event may be more likely to see their crimes prosecuted than victims of ’salami attacks’ built from many small, individual slices,” says Mercury News.

Cyber crime pays, and it pays big with little chance of being caught.

What I would like to know with all these viruses/Malware/spyware….. why aren’t the ISP’s taking a larger lead and start using Gateway Antivirus Technology. I know if I had a virus on my system and my ISP turned off my internet and gave me a call informing me of the problem and what I need to do to clean it off, I would have no problem with it.
Insteed the ISP will waist their money on blocking p2p just to make the music/movie industry happy.
and for the record its not the publics fault that over half the shit the entertainment industry releases is crap.
I think most people download the music/movies because they don’t want to get screwed out of their money.
You don’t buy a car until after you have test driven it. Same should go for the music/movies.
I rent movies and if I like it I will buy it (which I usually don’t).
