RIAA, MPAA, to presidential candidates

p2pnet news | Politics:- By way of an update to our earlier story in which we point out a wholly vested interest organisation has decided it’s time to horn in on the presidential elections, now the RIAA and MPAA are getting in on the act.

In what’s probably its first major effort, the so-called Copyright Alliance wants, “2008 presidential candidates to add ‘meaningful copyright protection’ to their platforms,” we posted, also pointing out it’s sending a ‘questionnaire’ to candidates, demanding they fill it in, ‘to let the creative community know of your commitment to copyright and artists’ rights’.”

Now, “Play ball, or else,” Mitch ‘The Don’ Bainwol (left) and ‘China’ Dan Glickman, head enforcers and fact spinners at the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) and MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), are saying to US presidential candidates in subtly worded messages.

“In the coming years, there will be those who lose sight of the sweet spot we need to find, and instead, will suggest the notion of property rights in a digital age is little more than a quaint relic of the past,” says Bainwol.

Actually, Mitch, they won’t be saying that in the coming years. They’ve been saying it since Day One.

He goes on:

They will warp concepts of fair use into justification for free use under almost any circumstances. They will seek to weaken enforcement penalties to diminish respect for IP. They will assume the flow of content continues regardless of the existence of incentives to create.

Good one, Mitch. Nice ring to it. They should lap that up ;)

He adds:

We are one of the few sectors of the economy with a set of issues that are not fundamentally partisan or essentially ideological. That means we shouldn’t look at labels (political) and presume our interests are paramount. It means we have the duty to ask the candidates on both sides of the aisle specifically how they view creativity in the evolving marketplace.

In other words, cooperate or …..

Says Glickman:

This is not merely a “movie industry” issue, but rather an issue of economic competitiveness, and I look forward to hearing more from our presidential candidates about how they will protect intellectual property as president.

In other words, cooperate or …..

I rather propose a new copyright law in which Artists cannot transfer copyright to a record label. Record Labels do exactly that, record, and nothing else. An artist should be allowed to sell his copyright if he/she should face harsh times, or for some other reasons, but the process should be somewhat tedious to discourage the creation of a market in which creations are traded like you trade stocks.

A supporting answer from any politician will result in a no vote from me beyond doubt. When you add to it all the students coming out of unis in the next few years, support for this blatent panhandling will come back to bite any politician seeking support from this direction.

Not only will they earn the ire of future voters which might not concern them now, they will earn the ire of those already adult voters that are under the gun along with each victims circle of friends. There are others that will join this group as well.

Those that are in the webmaster business, those in the indies that see these tatics as one of the reasons they can’t get air time to be heard on the radio, those that are p2pers, even those that consider the now outrageous lengths of copyright as stifling them in producing new technologies and new products for fear of facing some of the penalities that the now sitting legislatures have made making the inventors or manufactors liable will hold the same animosity.

It won’t do much good to feed at the through if you can’t get voted in. So make those deals as you will but remember, the American people are fed up with a government that isn’t listening to anything but corporation and they are considering taking back what is rightfully theirs by way of vote. Its “for the people by the people” and those now setting in government are showing no consideration beyond where the next buck is coming from. I personally am ready to see rescinded the ability of the corporation to donate to any one candidate and instead donate to a pool. I am beginning to also favor the removal of person status for the corporation and leave it with no public voice in relation to government by law.

The corporation has purchased it’s existance and bulled it’s way into government influance. Through this method, it has now gained back what it lost in the early 20’s. The broken up Bell corporation has now reformed, no longer being held back by law. Oil companies that were broken up have now merged back into the main 4 players. We have went backwards, not forward with the last generation of lawmakers accepting the bribe to make laws in favor of these actions that were once prohibited. There was a reason they were prohibited in the first place and a reason for the forced breakup of large corporations in the past.

A corporation has all the advantages of a person without the benefit of a conscience.

As they run out of consistent arguments, they take the George W. approach: “Either you’re with us, or your against us”
Great, that means they’re heading towards the end.
But don’t worry guys, there are plenty of corporations in need of high-paid lobbyists that would say anything for a few (million) bucks!

    Cheers!

I am against them and I have a lot of equipement.
    They has been warned.

If I was them I will start running now.
