Microsoft abandons WiFi
p2pnet.net News:- “Nothing can outrun the latest in wireless,” says Microsoft here.
“With an 802.11g network, you can start sharing files, printers, and a single broadband Internet connection – without wires – over multiple computers, anywhere in your home or small office.”
Not any more.
Microsoft has stepped right out of the WiFi arena.
It’ll sell the WiFi products it currently has in stock and support existing products through their two-year warranty period, although service beyond that time frame won’t be offered, a Microsoft UK spokeswoman is quoted as saying in an IDG News Service story here.
“After careful evaluation, the Microsoft hardware group has decided to scale back its broadband hardware and networking business,” a representative says in a CNET story here.
“Instead, the plan is to apply the knowledge we have gained in that category to future products and services.”
Interesting.
