Europe is a country, and so is Hungry

Kellie Dawn Pickler (born June 28, 1986) is an American country music singer and songwriter who finished sixth on the fifth season of the Fox television series American Idol.

That’s from the Wikipedia.

Aged 19, she appeared in “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader”? —- and there’s a clip of her (choke) performance on YouTube.

“She knows fish” and, “She knows red shoes,” says Jeff Foxworthy, the Fox promoter of the show.

But geography?

Here’s an exchange between her and host on a third grade geography question, Buda Pest is the capital of ….. ?

Pickler: “I never heard of it. Like, I know they speak French there ……. Is France a country?
Foxworthy: Hungry.
Pickler: Hungry?
Foxworthy: Like I’m hungry.
Pickler: That’s a country? I’ve heard of Turkey but Hungry …….?

hey p2pnet! If you’re gonna make a point with this post, I suggest you change Hungry to it’s proper “Hungary” and it’s capital city to Budapest, not Buda Pest. But yes, t’was a hilarious television moment indeed.
    Cheers!

P.S., Jon, I wanted to say I’m working on my grad thesis regarding social capital and music distribution in a digital age. Your blog has become a part of my daily research regiment. Kudos on keeping it interesting, and thank heavens for RSS… all the best

Sweet, let’s perpetuate stereotypes about people from the southern US. Hey, at least there’s one group that we can mock and use hate speech about, right? Cool!

  6. Reader's Write Says:

I come across lot’s of northerners on the net and they all seem to have one thing in common:
    They can’t spell for shit.

    (but we’re the dumb hicks)

  7. Just my two cents Says:

As a US citizen liven most of his life overseas, it is amaizing how so many people (not only Rednecks) are oblivious about the world around them.

In my University years, I met a pair of guys, who were regulars on my BBS (remember those :) ?), who had only left their state once (for a StarTrek convention), and left their town (of around 25,000) 4 times in the 25 years that they had lived. They lived at home, and to top that off, they worked as a janator in their old highschool. These guys had no concept of the worl around them, and really didn’t care.

I also met a Canadian, who had traveled across the border, but had never seen an ocean, and thought that the whole bit about foriegn countries was all a part of a government conspiracy.

Well, conspiracy or not, I sure am glad that there are “other” countries, and that I don’t have to be bother by these people (except when they become president, and screw it up for ALL US citizens living overseas.

    Just my two cents
