Montreal ‘movie pirate’ faces jail

p2pnet news | Movies:- With America as the top country for movie piracy, Hollywood has accused Canada of being a haven for camcording crooks.
And George W. Harper’s Conservative government has been falling over itself to answer allegations by such as David Wilkins, Hollywood ambassador to Canada, that Montreal is a copyright disaster.
Accordingly, new Canadian anti-piracy laws were introduced with embarrassingly indecent haste, leaping ahead of other purely Canadian problems which needed to be urgently addressed.
The new laws make it a crime to use tiny hand-held camera recorders, such as those made and marketed extensively by Sony (one of the Hollywood companies which claims it’s being ruined by piracy) in cinemas.
Now, “A 25-year-old Montreal man alleged to be one of the leading movie pirates in North America could face jail time,” says the Montreal Gazette.
“Gérémi Adam became the RCMP’s poster boy for the federal government’s recently adopted copyright legislation during a news conference yesterday,” says the story, going one:
“The new legislation, which makes it illegal to use a camcorder to record movies in theatres, was adopted to address Canada’s reputation in Hollywood for being lax on such copyright infringement.”
Adam was arrested after he was said to have camecorded How to Eat Fried Worms and Invincible, says the Gazette.
The Mounties and FBI, “investigated Adams for four months, and allege he was a world leader in film piracy,” says CTV, adding:
“Adams faces charges under the Copyright Act rather than Canada’s new anti-piracy law, because he was arrested in September 2006.
“Officials spent the past 14 months gathering evidence against Adams. It’s the first time the RCMP has used the Copyright Act to fight the alleged distribution of pirated films on the Internet.”
He faces a maximum $25,000 fine or six-months in jail.
Six days later, “Montreal police arrested Louis René Haché, 23, of Montreal,” says the story, adding:
He is alleged to have recorded the comedy Dan in Real Life at a Guzzo theatre” but unlike Adam, “Haché was charged under the Criminal Code. He faces one count of recording in a movie theatre and one count of recording in a movie theatre for commercial distribution.”
That’s Vincent Guzzo on the right (the one without the camcorder
) .

It’s hard to take you seriously using phrases like “George W. Harper’s Conservative”. Are you trying to run a news site or a hangout for angsty college socialists?
It’s especially funny because the law being used against this man was introduced by the previous Liberal government, and the single biggest supporter of copyright law/hollywood interests the Canadian government has ever seen was former Liberal cabinet minister Sarmite Bulte.

Some of us like to hear jons’ take on these issues. As far as the writing is concerned, huh? It seems perfectly fine to me. I believe you are being overly pedantic; This is prose, not verse.

own integrity and respect.
The fun must go on in a right good way.
Those big boss do not need anything while they can spend 1K for security and while a young man have difficulty to pay a lawyer.
And the artists do not have much more because Guzzo is able to spend 1k in security. Not far from SS. He will charge more to customers and not giving more to the ones which make their lifes and talents for give the best of themselves to population, THE ARTISTS !
Artists needs support.
But it is not from guys like Guzzo not much from goverment. All those take money using artist’s talents from customers for those paying high price to the big boss and paying large taxes to goverment using cinema or Internet.
All this have to change. Artist’s exploitation exist it is a fact.
But who abuse more and who abuse who ? Now artists still like the clown in midage. Some people really accept by public -good promotion- may have long and confortable life. But not all.
Stop it
