24’s Kiefer Sutherland starts 48
p2pnet news | TV:- Canadian movie and TV star Kiefer Sutherland of ‘24′ fame has started his 48 days in jail for drunken driving.
Any ordinary person who’d receive such a sentence would have to serve it straight with no convenient interruptions.
But not Sutherland.
He’ll be doing his ‘time’ in handy bits and pieces to accommodate the TV series in which he stars.
“His request to serve his time at the Glendale city jail was granted and he was ordered to complete the sentence by March 30,” says the Boston Globe.
This was in place of an “overcrowded county lockup,” says Los Angeles Times.
He also was ordered to spend five years on probation, complete an 18-month alcohol program and six months of weekly therapy sessions, and pay a $510 fine, it states.
Who says celebrities, politicians and rich people get special treatment?

I hate how these fucking celebrities get off so easily. They should get the same treatment as you or I.

This is their solution to the writer’s strike!
They could set up some cameras in the prison, tape Mr. Sutherland slapping around some Arab-looking guys, splice it in with some existing film and footage of buildings exploding, and voila! A new season of ‘24′.

Rather than giving the “same treatment” to celebs that you and I get, turn it around and give US the same treatment that Keif and other celebs get. I for one am sick of hearing of folks who receive draconian punishments because they are nobodys or can’t afford a good atty. Lets see…..two years for some guy camming a movie. But the MPAA commits wholesale copyright violation whilst pushing a “narc” app for schools to run and there is no punishment whatsoever. And so it goes……

You people don’t know what you’re talking about! Kiefer IS serving his entire 48 days in one chunk. Originally, he was to serve it in two stints of 18 and 30 days, respectively, but that was before the writer’s strike. And that is not at all unusual. MANY, MANY, MANY “ordinary” people convicted of DUI are allowed to serve their sentences in pieces that work around their jobs, oftentimes only on weekends or evenings. Also, most “ordinary” people are given sentences of far less than 48 days even on the 2nd offense (Kiefer’s prior convictions do not count because they were more than 10 years ago. That’s California’s law and applies to EVERYONE not just TV stars). The typical sentence for a 2nd offense in California is only 10 days! Also, most “ordinary” people are allowed to get time off for good behavior which cuts their sentences in HALF (Kiefer’s plea deal allows NO time off for good behavior – he will serve the ENTIRE 48 days). Lastly, most “ordinary” people would have been let out in a matter of hours because of jail overcrowding, but again, Kiefer’s plea deal does not allow for early release so he will serve the ENTIRE 48 days.
Kiefer probably wishes that he would have gotten the same sentence that “ordinary” people get, but his need to guarantee production of 24 would not be interrupted (which is a moot point with the writer’s strike) caused him to accept an unusually harsh plea. The sad part is, that without the plea bargain, he probably would have been released in a matter of hours due to overcrowding, just like Nichol and Lindsay and many “ordinary” people are every day.
I’m all for harsh sentences for drunk driving and I’m all for celebrities getting the same treatment as everyone else, but if you’re going to hold up an example of a celebrity who got off easy because of their stardom, you’ve picked the wrong one!
