Couple used spyware to rob neighbours

p2pnet news | Crime:- A pair of young American cyber crooks left angry neighbours behind them as they swept through Europe, lavishly spending money they’d gathered by stealing data and using it in what the Digital Journal calls a “complex identity theft scam”.

Jocelyn Kirsch, 22, and Edward K. Anderton, 25, were enjoying trips to Paris and London, salon visits costing $1,700 each and a $3,000-a-month apartment in upscale Philadelphia from the proceeds, says Digital Journal, from which the swimn suit clip was taken.

The head-and-shoulders under it comes from a Seattle Times story which leads off with:

“Classmates at Snohomish High School remember Edward Anderton as the kind of kid who might end up in politics.

“He earned high marks in honors classes, was a star athlete, played in the school band and was elected to student government. His knack for smooth talk was matched only by his ambition, say those who knew him.”

The two, “raked in $100,000 this year alone through credit cards stolen from unsuspecting neighbours,” says Digital Journal, and when police searched their apartment, “they found printers, scanners and an industrial machine that made ID cards”

However, says the story, “the most intriguing piece of technology was the $100 spyware program called Spector”.

The $100 applications promises it’s, “the world’s best selling software for monitoring and recording every detail of PC and Internet activity – in your home or in your office”.

Spector Pro, “records every detail of what they do on the computer – their chats, instant messages, emails, the web sites they visit, what they search for, what they do on MySpace, the pictures they post and look at, the keystrokes they type, the programs they run and much more,” promises the site going on:

And because of its advanced surveillance screen snapshot features, you get to see not only WHAT they do, but the EXACT order in which they do it, step by step. With Spector Pro, you will never doubt who is doing what on the computer.

Anderton and Kirsch surrendered to Philadelphia police to face additional charges resulting from the alleged scheme that authorities say netted an estimated $100,000 this year alone, says the Seattke Times, adding:

Released on bond after being charged on Friday with crimes including identity theft, forgery and unlawful use of a computer, “They were two young people that were given many gifts in life,” said Detective Terry Sweeney, “who spoke of the couple’s supportive families and private schooling,” and, “the very best thing they could do was victimize other people”.

It isn’t actually smart enough to leave the pc without any anti-keylogging protection. There is a plenty of software, protecting this. The one I recommend is Anti-Keylogger(http://www.anti-keyloggers.com/). It would be also desirable to install a Firewall and an anti-virus. With all that software installed noone had been robbed.
