Hollywood threatens China

p2pnet news | MPAA News:- Hollywood is accusing China of deliberately blocking the import of American films into their country.
Could it be China is following the example of South Korea in favouring home-grown movies over American detritus?
Says Hollywood Doctor of Disingenuity Dan Glickman:
“It is increasingly clear that China may have instituted a block on the import of American films into their country.”
Would that we could do the same in Canada. Here, however, Hollywood says jump and our politicians leap high into the air.
The MPAA’s Glickman goes on:
“Although we have not received official confirmation of such a ban from the Chinese government or China Film, the indicators are strong that our information is correct.”
Then comes the implied threat: that a collection of purely commercial movie houses are not only in a position to damage a nation with the power of China, but that they’ll do so, unless they get what they want.
But they can support this arrogance secure in the knowledge the Bush administration is right behind them, for whatever that’s worth nowadays.
Declares Glickman ominously:
“We are working with top officials in the U.S. government, including the Treasury Secretary, as well as the Trade Representative and Secretary of Commerce, both of whom are in China at the moment.
“If these reports are true, it is unacceptable that China has taken this action.”
What a pity. And after Hollywood has spent so much time and effort schmoozing Chinese officials and jetting Glickman back and forth.
Unless China comes to heel forthwith, “we will bring all our resources and leverage to bear to address this situation,” warns Glickman on behalf of George W. Bush and the rest of the United States government.
That should do the trick.
But doesn’t China hold the paper on literally hundreds of trillions of US dollars?
These venal attempts by Hollywood to dictate to China will also take on special relevance with the approach of the Beijing Olympics.
How far is the Bush government prepared to go in fronting for a bunch of record labels and movie houses
Stay tuned.

ummm, sweet. I hate China, but anyone who can give a middle finger to the RIAA and MPAA without having to worry about reprimand (after all they do own the U.S.) deserves some sort of praise.

We owe China a lot of money due to the shortsightedness and insanity of our politicians but I think you meant hundreds of *billions* not trillions.
I believe the national debt is around 9 trillion right now.

I thought it was trillions, but if I’m wrong, I now stand corrected
Cheers!

I hate the chinese governement but I don’t hate the chineses nor China. They are great people and we should band together with them. Actually we should all band together against authoritarism and tyrany. It does not matter if it is in Teheran, in moscou or in Burma. There in the west we are having problems with few big corporations trying to rule our lives and similarly we should band together against them.
