Mac fans mourn CompUSA

p2pnet news | Product News:- “Bad prices. Bad selection. Customer anti-service. Don’t even think about returns.”
That was how TechCrunch’s Michael Arrington summed up to the demise of CompUSA.
“Mexican telephone and retail magnate Carlos Slim, in a rare defeat, will exit the U.S. consumer electronics market, shutting the last 100 CompUSA Inc. stores after sinking about $2 billion into the business,” said the Wall Street Journal.
Arrington obviously has no regrets when it comes to CompuUSA’s failure to survive in the United States.
But apparently, at least one group of people will be sorry to see it go.
Macolytes.
“CompUSA has been a large seller of Macs, the news last week that the electronics retailer plans to close its remaining stores early next year has drawn lots of attention online, much of it presented in an elegiac tone,” says the New York Times, quoting Ars Technica’s Jacqui Cheng as saying, “Although the store has all but lost its relevancy in today’s market, the news still strikes me as the end of an era.
And, “The first time I ever saw a Mac in real life, it was at a CompUSA,” the story has Michael Murphey of the Apple Gazette blog declaring.
“If it hadn’t been for a CompUSA I would probably have never seen a Mac, or gotten a chance to try one out — and who knows if I’d ever made the switch.”
RIP or AT (about time)?
