Leno, O’Brien turn scab in writers strike

p2pnet news | TV:- NBC’s Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien say they’ll become scabs.

And so will ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel.

They, “dealt a blow to striking film and television writers” by saving they’ll cross the picket line in the beam which Hollywood writers who say they need more money because they’re not being paid when they were used online or on cellphones, and so on, says the Los Angeles Times.

But the Writers Guild of America isn’t taking it lying down. No. Says the story:

The decision means that Dick Clark Productions and the Foreign Press Assn. will not be able to employ writers to craft the script for the Globes, which airs Jan. 13 on NBC, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will not be allowed to show clips of movies and past award shows in the February telecast of the Oscars without paying residuals for their use.

Not only but also, “People close to the guild’s board said the union also decided it would not permit writers to work on the Oscars, although the academy has not asked for such a waiver,” says the story.

Oh! The Horror!

So is it now time for all you amateur comedy writers is to start submitting your gags? Maybe you could, like, send one or two of examples of your work to your favourite laff mechanic?

Not, at least if NBC’s attitude is typical.

It, “may seem like we at NBC are constantly hanging out with celebrities, but the sad truth is that we’re not,” says the company’s Contact Us page “Consequently, we are unable to forward emails directed to NBC talent.”

Oh.

And, “Finally, NBC cannot accept, consider or pay for any unsolicited creative ideas or materials. If you send something anyway, you waive any claims with respect to your submission. So why send it?”

Why indeed.

Meanwhile …….

‘Ah ah ah a a a a ahaaaa

“Writers!?

“Writers!?

“Where are you in this fucking town?”

That’s Tori Amos doing her bit to support Hollywood’s striking writers.

“Seize the power!” – she shouts.

Er, um …

“I was there for this, got chills!” – says lfg210 in a comment post on the YouTube site showing the video. “Where is it in you to seize the power?”

“One of the worst entertainers ever to be promoted,” says hootyhaha.

Yes, well …..

  1. catflap Says:

leno and conan are professional comedy writers besides being hosts of their own shows.

besides that, they’re also producers. they’re probably in wga as well as the producer’s association.

their own companies also produce their shows.

and as performers, they must be in AFTRA.

being in 3 unions is probably a very tough thing, but i’m surprised they’re crossing the picket line.

and dick clark can go suck an egg.
