MPAA’s new Super Sniffer Sleuths

p2pnet news | MPAA News:- Hollywood, flushed with the success of its farcical Lucky and Flo Sniffer Sleuths Saga, has announced a sequel.

Time Warner, Viacom, Fox, Sony, NBC Universal and Disney’s MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) has milked a staggering amount of free PR from Lucky and Flo, two black Labrador retrievers.

The MPAA selected flexible enforcement authorities in Malaysia to launch the dogs, trained to react to certain chemicals used in the manufacture of optical discs.

And that’s as far as it goes.

Police then need to decide whether the discs are counterfeits or not and as far as we know, no one has ever been convicted of anything based on evidence supplied by the two dogs.

Nor do we know how many legitimate shippers have been seriously inconvenienced and/or delayed by L&F’s activities.

Now, “Malaysia will get two new sniffer dogs to unearth pirated DVDs,” says Associated Press.

So, were the Malaysian authorities were so impressed with L&F they asked for their very own Canine Cops?

Well, not exactly.

“Paddy and Manny … will arrive in Malaysia in February to be permanently based here, said Nor Hayati Yahaya, the Malaysian representative of the Motion Picture Association of America.”

“Their training is almost completed,” Nor Hayati said. “Malaysia will be the first to have its own canine unit for sniffing optical discs.”

Arf! Arf!

Nor Hayati said setting up a canine unit to fight piracy showed a “huge difference in terms of attitude, commitment” by Malaysia, a country that used to be a top pirated movie producer and exporter.

Our exclusive picture shows Lucky and Flo at a recent PR photo opportunity.
