Austria’s online flea market
p2pnet news | Off Topic:- You know all those Christmas prezzies you don’t want —- the nylon socks, and so on?
If you’re in Austria, no problem because Vienna now has a free site for people to trade, sell and give away things they don’t need.
“People post their offerings online and are contacted by those in their area who are interested,” says Associated Press.
“Requests can also be submitted.”
Ulli Sima, city councilor for environmental issues, hopes the online flea market will mean less waste, says the story.
The general idea isn’t exactly new, of course.
For example, Freecycle says it’s a network of 4,211 groups with 4,232,000 members across the globe.
“It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns,” says the site, going on:
“It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them’s good people). Membership is free.”
And “Welcome to the first Freecycle group in Canada!!” - says the Freecycle Yahoo group, saying it offers the Freecycle service to, “all of us living on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada”.
Vancouver Island is also home to p2pnet : )
