Hitachi half-terabyte HD

p2pnet news | Product News:- System storage is half the battle and Hitachi GST has introduced what it says is the world’s highest-capacity mobile unit —- the half-terabyte (500GB) Hitachi Travelstar 5K500 internal hard drive.
Meant for use in slim desktops, full-featured notebooks, and gaming consoles, it also comes in a 400GB version, says PC Magazine.
It’s available with a 3.0Gbps Serial ATA (SATA) interface and will be on the shelves next month for $400, says PC World, going on:
"According to Hitachi, although the drive itself will occupy a 2.5-inch chassis, the drive mechanism inside the drive enclosure will be a bit thicker than the usual height of a drive. Typically, drives are 9.5mm in thickness; the 500GB drive will be 12.5mm, due to the additional disk platter.
"The 5400rpm 500GB drive has 167GB per platter, the highest capacity per platter drive announced. Toshiba’s 320GB drive packs in 160GB per platter."
ASUS says it is already integrated Hitachi’s Travelstar 5K500 hard drive into its new M50 and M70 notebook PCs, says PC Magazine.
