Mt Everest conqueror Edmund Hillary dies

p2pnet news | Off Topic:- Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to conquer Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain, has died of a heart attack at the age of 88.
He’ll have a state funeral in New Zealand.
Hillary was, "hailed as one of the great 20th century adventurers, of a rank with Roald Amundsen, the Norwegian who led the first successful expedition to the South Pole 40 years earlier," says Times Online.
Now, tributes have begun to flow in, says tvnz.co.nz.
Among them eas this from New Zealand Alpine Club President Phil Doole:
"Ed Hillary wasn’t just a once in a lifetime figure, he was a once in history figure.
"By definition no-one else was able to repeat his first ascent of the world’s highest mountain, yet that achievement pales into insignificance compared to his humanitarian achievements, his values and his determined expression of them."
In Nepal, where Sir Edmund was granted honorary citizenship in 2003 on the golden jubilee of his greatest climb, "members of the mountaineering community mourned his passing," says Times Online.
“He was a hero and a leader for us," it has Bhoomi Lama of the Nepal Mountaineering Association in Katmandu, saying. "He did a lot for the people of the Everest region and will always remain in our hearts."
