UK’s ‘Core’ radio shuts down today
p2pnet news | Radio:- Digital radio operator Digital One, which airs Planet Rock, TheJazz and the three national analogue stations – Classic FM, Virgin Radio and TalkSport – across the UK on digital audio, is shutting down two of its services.
GCap Media’s Core is due to close down today and UBC Media’s Oneword going off air tomorrow, says Guardian Unlimited.
"Another GCap station on Digital One, Life, is also closing," it says, adding:
"The multiplex operator is in negotiations with a number of parties about filling the vacant berths on Digital One, and has begun talks with Ofcom, which awards the licence, about renewing it for up to another 12 years."
Core was originally owned by GWR Group, now GCap Media, says the Wikipedia, adding:
"It was launched on the Digital One multiplex on 15th November 1999 at 1pm (GMT), alongside four other stations, Planet Rock, Classic FM, Talk Radio (now TalkSport) and Virgin Radio, with other stations joining the multiplex in the following months."
