New French revolution: TV, this time
p2pnet news | TV:- If president Nicolas Sarkozy has his way, the country is about to experience another revolution.
He wants to Net access and mobile phone use to help fund France’s two public television channels, which would be free of advertising.
"There would also be a levy on the advertising revenue made by France’s private broadcasters," says the BBC.
The ideas are, "aspects of what Mr Sarkozy calls his ‘policy of civilisation’," says the story, adding that at his first full press conference at the Elysee Palace since his election seven months ago.
He promised a "cultural revolution in public service television," according to this story.
The money would come from, "a tax on the higher advertising income of private channels and the revenues generated by new means of communication such as internet access or mobile telephones," the BBC says, adding:.
"President Sarkozy reassured new media users that the new taxes would be ‘infinitesimal’."
