Peggy Sue vs Buddy Holly’s wife

p2pnet news | Music:- Charles Hardin Holley’s wife is angry because a woman whose name he made famous in the 1950s has written a book.

‘Holley’ became famous as Buddy Holly and the book was by Peggy Sue Gerron.

If you know your classic rock you’ll probably be able to guess the rest.

Gerron’s “Whatever Happened to Peggy Sue?” is, “unauthorized and will harm her late husband’s name, her own reputation and that of her company, Holly Properties,” says Holly’s wife, Maria Elena, according to Associated Press, which goes:

“Gerron, who lives in Lubbock, said she and another woman wrote the 283-page book because 2008 is the 50th anniversary of the release of ‘Peggy Sue.’ Buddy Holly also recorded ‘Peggy Sue Got Married.’

“Gerron said material for the book came from about 150 diary entries she wrote during the time she knew the singer, she said.”

An online promo says, “Straight from her diary,” Gerron, “corrects the untruths and rumors associated with the birth of rock and roll to tell one of the most fascinating stories in music”.

It goes on:

“In 1955 Peggy Sue began dating Jerry Allison, Buddy Holly¹s best friend and drummer for the Crickets. Soon, she too forged a close friendship with Buddy and when she married Jerry, Buddy found himself a bride, too. But on the double honeymoon that followed, things changed dramatically.

“Buddy’s tragic death, leaving a beautiful young widow, and his 22 years of life have been hung in fantasy and fiction.”

Etc, etc.

Adds Associated Press:

“Maria Elena Holly said she would sue if excerpts she’s read online appear in the book, which is due in bookstores later this month. ‘I don’t understand why people do that, especially when she knows that people know the truth,’ she said.

“This week, her attorney, Richard Wallace, sent a cease-and-desist letter to TogiEntertainment Inc., an Oklahoma City-based publishing house. Wallace declined to comment Friday.”

  1. who cares Says:

If you ask me the wife sounds unreasonably jealous, and the other gal is a delusional chick just milking her 15 minutes of fame. Two old battleaxes catfighting. who cares? let the book be published and people decide what they want to believe or not believe.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Being from Lubbock…..the wife is alwasy unreasonable. She loves the money not the man. Lubbock has always had to fight for Buddy Holly’s memories here in his home town. She acts as though she was the only person that knew him, and in reality she knew him the shortest amount of time. Let Peggy Sue share her memories. It is those memories that keep the legend alive. I would love to hear another side of Buddy Holly’s life other that the what the wife wants to dangle in front of us.

  3. Steamboater Says:

You can’t censor a book, which is what he wife is trying to do. ANyone has the right towrote a biography and even use photos of the subject.
I’d like to know what these rumors on thenet are as well. Was Holly having an affair with Gerron when he married? What else went on?

  4. quint collector Says:

Reader’s Write and Who cares is entirely correct. I can’t wait to read Peggy Sue’s story for a different perspective about Buddy Holly.
