Music triggered woman’s epilepsy

p2pnet news | Music:- Musicogenic epilepsy is medicalese for a rare complaint which means seizures are triggered by music. And it was causing terrible misery for Canadian Stacey Gale.
Apart from anything else, she couldn’t listen to her favourite musician, Sean Paul, without suffering a serious epileptic attack.
"A year and a half ago, she realized there was something about Paul’s music," says nbc5i.com.
"She had collapsed at a barbecue when Paul’s music was played, then she remembered another seizure after hearing Paul.
"She went to doctors at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center last February, played Paul’s song ‘Temperature’ for the doctors and suffered three seizures."
A customer service employee at a bank in Alberta, "the condition became so bad she eventually had to quit her job and leave the church choir where she sang," says CBS News, going on:
According to the hospital, there are only five such cases known worldwide.
During the first surgery, doctors implanted more than 100 electrodes in the right side of her brain to pinpoint the abnormal area of her brain.
The surgeons followed that procedure with a second surgery to remove the electrodes, along with parts of her brain suspected of causing the seizures.
"Did you really think this is one of those ‘Eureka!’ moments?" Smith asked.
"Absolutely," Mehta said. "It’s fairly common in a lot of people who have epilepsy. That area happened to be triggered by the music, and we took it out, and she’s done wonderfully."
Gayle was released from hospital three days after her operation and hasn’t had a seizure since, says nbc51.com
