FTC approves TV Wi-Fi
p2pnet.net News:- The FCC has endorsed a plan to tap unused TV spectrum to bring high-speed Net connections and other wireless technologies to more computer users, especially in rural areas.
But this, "begins a lengthy rulemaking process in which television broadcast stations will oppose the plan," says BroadcastEngineering here.
"Broadcasters contend it might cause interference, disrupting reception of terrestrial television signals" but FCC chief engineer Ed Thomas says current technology can avoid interference problems.
"WiFi can sense when a frequency is being used and scan for another available pocket of spectrum," says the story. "That technology, Thomas said, can be expanded to the television spectrum to avoid interference."

Personally, I think that what gets broadcasted as “television” these days is interference anyway. Who cares if wi-fi mucks it up?
