RIAA consumer control BioDiscs

p2pnet news | RIAA News:- Following decisions by the members of the Big 4 organised music cartel, Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG, to partially abandon DRM, the RIAA is developing a biometric CD to replace Digital Restrictions Management consumer control.
Using technology developed by The Amergence Group, aka SunnComm International, the radically new BioCDs will have thumbprint receptors positioned in their centres.
“The first time a consumer purchases a BioCD, he or she will be required to sign a licensing agreement and to register his or her thumbprint, which will then be permanently stored in a special database linked directly to the FBI’s integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System, more commonly known as IAFIS,” explains RIAA spokeswoman Sarah Cluckworth, going on:
“The cool new legal BioCDs will serve a dual purpose.
“Everyone loves music and they will enable the FBI to possibly identify and apprehend criminals via the special RIAA automatic point of purchase notification system.
“When someone who is wanted by the authorities registers, a message is sent to the nearest police headquarters, and all outlet doors are locked to prevent the individual’s escape.”
More importantly, “BioDiscs will enable us to track consumers and acquire invaluable data on their musical preferences such as where they shop, how much they pay, and other information,” she says.
“This will allow us to better serve them and enhance their purchasing experience.”
BioDiscs also have a third purpose, says RIAA president Cary Sherman.
Each unit ‘recognises’ its rightful owner and, “In the centre of each receptor is a tiny needle (see yellow arrow) which is released when someone who is not licensed or otherwise authorised to use the disk attempts to play it,” he states, continuing:
“As part of the RIAA Tough Love campaign, it injects a long-lasting, but harmless, irritant which causes an itchy pustule to develop in the area penetrated by the needle.
“This leaves few secondary effects.”
BioDiscs will initially be tested exclusively by Sony BMG, “because it has the most experienced with embedded consumer control technology,” says Cluckworth.
When initial trials are over, Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal will employ the sensing technology on all of their music CD releases.
“I’m tremendously excited by this,” says Universal boss Doug Morris.
“It represents a solution we have all been looking for and may well teach users how to use our product in a responsible manner at the same time, allowing law-enforcement personnel who are currently enforcing copyright legislation to resume normal duties.”

Spoof or parody?
January 22nd, 2008 at 1:53 pm
Don’t give them any ideas. They might actually do this.
January 22nd, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Obviously a spoof. Not funny. I come here for real news. I’m sure they’d love to do this but the technology is a little behind for this to happen. Even if you could do it technically consumers, even stupid ones, won’t tolerate this.
“the radically new BioCDs will have thumbprint receptors positioned in their centres.”
By “thumbprint receptors” you mean the playing surface.
Why do you do spoof news?

“Even if you could do it technically consumers, even stupid ones, won’t tolerate this.”
Really?

Please stop doing the spoofs. I get pissed off then I realize it’s a spoof and I get pissed off again.

Here is something that is not a spoof

Re above comment
Actually the CRIA tried. But they failed in getting the customer info from the ISP via bullying, and went it went to court, the court said no as well.
In short they would if they could, but they can’t. So no you don’t get any credit for trying and failing.
Also yes, mark spoofs ‘Spoof’ or something, the RIAA guys think of too many things that sound like spoofs already.

Re above comment
A hint that it is a spoof – no links to external sites. So, no need to mark spoofs as such, let’s have an eternal April Fools Day every day!

Satire:
1 : a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn
2 : trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly

I really really really hope that it is a spoof. If it’s not, then it’s the single best way to prevent consumers from buying the products.
If the MPAA/RIAA is complaining about “poor sales” now…
January 22nd, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Don’t think much of the spoofs for my own opinion. The scarcy part is no one would put it past such organizations to attempt such. Should something like that happen you can bet your last bill I would cease all purchasing for life from them. As it is I am on temporary boycott against these organizations, the big media that supports them, and it’s mentality. For the whole time since they started the sue’em all, I have spent not one dime for their products. That’s no music, no movies (rented, cinema, nor purchase), nor do I any longer use cable, satellite, nor antenna, for those services leading to their support. I believe that strongly against these types of methods.
As far as the CRIA, they are painted with the same brush as their former association with the big labels. They made a real cosy bed for themselves during earlier years. They will have to show something besides “we ain’t part of it” in action rather than dialog to change public opinion. That means more than just dropping out of the RIAA and cohorts little club as action. I don’t hear them crying for copyright change that improves the publics rights. So that speaks for itself.
January 22nd, 2008 at 6:13 pm
I bet you that they would be few morons to still buy such a BioCD if they existed!
meanwhile don’t forget: BOYCOTT these parasites! This is the best pest killer there is with the least side effect.
No Broken window no polution and no blood anywhere.
The pests just vanish.
Actually they are vanishing as we speak and they know it but continue the BOYCOTT!

It’s a spoof, I researched this news on Google and found only this site hosts this article.
We need verification before you clarify this is really happening.
I guess it must be April fools day
) lol

Like one previous story about DRM producing a 250 decibel shriek in an iPod
user’s ears if it detected “pirated” music, this one will also be believed as
though it were real by some, in particular SunComm.
Since they cannot distinguish between satire and reality in much the same
way some of p2pnet’s readers, there’s a good chance they will email Jon
a rebuttal denying that they have created the BioCDs.
January 22nd, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Jon, you are dirtying the good name of the RIAA with this so-called “satire”. With immediate effect, you must take down this article and cease & desist from any further such articles.
Just in case you have not understood what I have just told you, there is a little lawsuit on its way to you, to explain. A settlement offer is included and you would be wise to take it.
And finally, to all you p2p thieves: we ARE working on a biometric DRM system. Together with stronger conventional DRM, it will nail piracy once and for all. Stay tuned, suckers!!

Mr RIAA Rep, as much as I hate the RIAA, I think it’s wrong to lie/spoof/cheat.
I have been apart of a independent propaganda department that is to scare and attack people that hate me, No hack attacks, just verbal attacks.
I even talked about secret societies, I came up with the Anonymous Cop Propaganda because of keznews banning me, then did it to get revenge on zeropaid because they thought I wanted to start a forum war, I wasn’t gonna start.
I’ve been harassed a lot so I try to intimidate, scare, and verbally bully other people because I have been internet bullied lots of times.
I also Did reported several IP Blocks that shared music to the RIAA to scare people, I used a weak password, pretend to be hacker, then send it to ADD, then got them paranoid, then knew they would leak the emails.
I did it all, the keznews having a lot of their links reported, calling innocent people child porn supporters, I even started a rumor that Alex Jones supports child porn when their was no evidence, I have lied, I have cheated, I have tried to scare people for months, I was also the one that fought in TrueCrypt forums because their mods banned me for requesting older versions of the software.
I am so sorry America. I did this junk because I didn’t wanna goto prison so I became the Net Mafia Forces, people that fight corruption.
and Yes I was molested as a child, and people kept judging me as being a criminal so I just started attacking forums, starting lies and propaganda, said horrible stuff about demonoid.
I am so sorry I treated you all like this, I have been harassed, had no friends, and my ex-friend hated me so I became a jerk evil maniac nutcase.
I am so sorry
for causing so much legal trouble on the internet, I am so sorry for abusing my fake anonymous cop authority.
I am sorry for spreading tons of fear and lies, while I became the biggest dirty gameplaying archiver in the world.
thats why I backstabbed and lied because I am building a 1TB archive and kept getting afraid the FBI will get me so I started fear, getting people to confuse the NSA, and created so many Identities and usernames I would be safe, but I feel like a loser.
I backstabbed to stay out of jail, I am not a criminal, but ever since file-sharing became a criminal offense I started backstabbing people for a long time.
Plz accept my apologies and plz don’t find out who I am, I kept getting bullied so I bullied back.
I am sorry
January 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm
In fact p2pnet I want you to put my confession all over the internet.
I want to say sorry to all my victims I turned into criminals.
I want you to expose anonymous cop as a Lie.
He was used to scare people, he was used as a fear tool.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:15 pm
How do you people not realize that “RIAA Rep” isn’t from the RIAA? He’s just satirizing them.
January 22nd, 2008 at 11:47 pm
Don’t really care if he is or not. There’s no file sharing going on here, so beyond jacking it around to slant the message for the RIAA (as a spoof as well) there’s no danger beyond slander for Canadians if he were serious. If he’s not then he provides plenty of fodder for the members to have some direction to fume at. Either way is fine as there is nothing here beyond words.

Fool. If they go down the pan, then piracy WILL be our collective faults and they can RIGHTLY blame us for their demise! What we must all do, is to stop all filesharing and buy as many CDs as possible. This will prove to the RIAA that their business model is flawed.

“buy as many CDs as possible” If you want but please please please do not buy ANY CD from an RIAA member.
BOYCOTT THE RIAA/MPAA BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! BOYCOTT! AND BOYCOTT!
I don’t care if you file share their crap or not. I don’t care if they blame us or not. I don’t care as lonng as they die.
I want them DEAD, Period.
I know that this is comming and they can blame god himself if they want too but they will die. it will be a good ridance as we don’t need parasites in our society.
January 23rd, 2008 at 11:38 am
This tell you how extreme this entertainment parasites have become.
Many people can not longer distinguish a far fetched spoof from the paranoiac
delusional and skizophrenic word of the majors!
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:03 pm
Love the spoofs. Keep ‘em comin’. Although, it does seem like it takes me longer and longer to tell that its a spoof. I don’t know if that’s because they are getting better, or because the RIAA is getting worse. Hmmm.
January 23rd, 2008 at 1:25 pm
… were this to happen (yes I realize the article is a spoof), I do believe that needle would fall under ‘assault and battery’, and the RIAA would quickly be sued for every penny they call their own. Even the warning of harm would be considered ‘assault’.
