Clambake criticises Scientology attacks

p2pnet news | Freedom:- “Some Internet channels have reported that a group called ‘Anonymous’ have started a DDoS attack on the Church of Scientology,” posts Operation Clambake’s Andreas Heldal-Lund (right).

p2pnet was among sites which reported on the appearance of a group calling itself Anonymous which in a YouTube video promises to be the downfall of Scientology.

‘Anonymous’ emerged following the massive online publication of another video, this time from Scientology actor Tom Cruise and which continues to be a serious embarrassment for both him and the cult.

Now Operation Clambake, run from Stavanger in Norway by Heldal-Lund, says whoever created the video is playing into Scientology’s hands.

“Operation Clambake, also referred to by its Web address, Xenu.net, is a website and Norway-based non-profit organization launched in 1996 that publishes mostly critical information about the Church of Scientology,” says the Wikipedia.

“It is owned and maintained by Andreas Heldal-Lund, who has stated that he supports the rights of all people to practice Scientology or any religion, though Operation Clambake has also referred to Scientology as: ‘a vicious and dangerous cult that masquerades as a religion.’ The Web site includes texts of petitions, news articles, exposés, and primary source documents.”

“The author of Operation Clambake does not condone such activity,” says Heldal-Lund, a member of a member of the Norwegian Society of Heathens, going on >>>

There is also an obscure message on YouTube announcing a “war” against Scientology.

The author of Operation Clambake does not condone such activity. Attacking Scientology like that will just make them play the religious persecution card. They will use it to defend their own counter actions when they try to shatter criticism and crush critics without mercy. I believe we are better than this cult and, face to face using democratic tools, most free and thinking individuals will see through their charade.

People should be able to have easy access to both sides and make up their own opinions. Freedom of speech means we need to allow all to speak – including those we strongly disagree with. I am of the opinion that the Church of Scientology is a criminal organisation and a cult which is designed by its delusional founder to abuse people. I am still committed to fight for their right to speak their opinion.

I support and appreciate all who want to help inform others about the dangers of Scientology, but I urge all to use methods that separate us from those we want to fight or criticise.

Disclaimer: We have not seen proof that CoS are victims of DDoS attacks. Perhaps all the hubbub over the Tom Cruise video caused an unexpected increase in legitimate traffic which their systems couldn’t take, and they maliciously try to blame the collapse of their sites on an imaginary DDoS. Perhaps they are honestly mistaking legitimate traffic for a DDoS. Perhaps they are indeed being DDoS’ed. It doesn’t really matter, it all boils down to the same: the very people who say they can solve all of humanity’s problems are not even capable of keeping a website up and running. This immense organization of “eight million” brilliant, dedicated and disciplined people, of which a good percentage supposedly has supernatural abilities, is not even able to respond to a sudden increase in network traffic. The merchants of “the way to success” prove to be an utter failure even in their own house.

Cult of Scientology bosses will no doubt be interested to learn of these differing opinions and approaches.

Meanwhile, p2pnet quoted Operation Clambake in a story wondering if the cult’s web site had been hacked.

Stay tuned, and for the record, p2pnet supports freedom of speech and freedom of expression —- anyone’s freedom of speech and freedom of expression.]
