More Disney nudity problems: NYPD Blue
p2pnet news | TV:- Disney is having more nudity troubles.

When a video of its High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens nude showed up online, it made headlines on- and offline around the world, to Disney’s initial embarrassment.
Of course, the episode generated, and continues to generate, a huge amount of free PR for both Hudgens and Disney.
Now a 2003 episode of Disney’s NYPD Blue which flashed a woman’s nude bum could cost the company’s ABC network $1.4 million.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said it wants, “$27,500 for each of 52 stations in the Central and Mountain time zones that aired the scene in the 9 to 10 p.m. time slot in violation of federal restrictions against broadcasting ‘obscene material’ between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m,” says the Los Angeles Times, going on:
“The agency has waged a battle against broadcast indecency under Chairman Kevin J. Martin. In October 2006, Congress authorized a tenfold increase in such fines. Broadcasters’ use of public airwaves subjects them to more regulation than cable channels.
“The FCC said it received ‘numerous complaints’ about the scene, in which a young boy walks in on a nude woman about to take a shower.”
Stations in the Eastern and Pacific zones won’t be fined because they aired the episode in the 10 to 11 p.m. slot, local time, says the story.
The FCC, “proposed the highest fine possible for the broadcast,” says the Wall Street Journal, continuing:
“Although ABC argues, without citing any authority, that the buttocks are not a sexual organ, we reject this argument, which runs counter to both case law and common sense, the FCC said in its complaint.”
If a broadcaster, “makes the decision to show indecent programming, it must air between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m,” the LA Times has FCC Commissioner Deborah Taylor Tate saying.
“This is neither difficult to understand nor burdensome to implement.”
But this is far from the first time Disney has had to bottom out.
In 2004, “NYPD Blue star Gordon Clapp’s bare bottom scenes on the show have been cut as TV bosses try to clean up risque shows,” reported contactmusic.com, adding:
“Just weeks after co-star Esai Morale’s sex scenes with Jacqueline Obradors (corr) were ‘blacked out’ – due to rising concerns following JJanet Jaclson’s breast-baring Super Bowl performance – Clapp, who plays Greg Medavoy in the cop drama, has been censored.
“The actor was to become the show’s last original cast member to bare his backside in an episode airing in America on 23 March (04).
“He says, ‘I’m told they can’t use the shots now. Maybe I’ll try independent films. Maybe I’ll go on tour with Janet (Jackson)’.”
And back in , 1996, “There was a time, back at its premiere in 1993, when ABC’s ”N.Y.P.D. Blue’ was considered controversial, apparently because it offered, among other licentious things, a shot of the bare buttocks of Dennis Franz,” said the New York Times.
“That was hardly an image likely to whip the country into sexual frenzy, but nudity watchdogs made the most of their panting opportunity.”

Obscenity at 9 pm? WTF. South Park is on before 10 pm and FCC isn’t up Comedy Central’s ass.

Andrey, there’s a difference between cable and OTA broadcasts, at least according to the FCC.

Welcome to the Christian States of America.

before this ruling, some kid who is awake at 9 pm in some part of the country might have been corrupt for life by seeing a bit of nudity, thank god for this ruling /sarcasm

“gotta love the Christian values being forced on everyone else.”
So much for separation of church and state.

Wow, you’re incredible lack of insight is incredible. The reason why they are attacking this, is to set a precedence. You need boundaries… Black and White ones..
As for your christian comments. Wow, can you ever be more ignorant. The article doesn’t mention anything about christian morals at all. But please, continue, because your obviously well versed with the world around you.

but of course, it would have to have MENTIONED Christians in order to reflect Christian values. gimf and look at the bigger picture.

Never forget that the USA was founded by puritans, and most of them never left. In europe, they show real nudity during daytime TV, but here in the US, people go into a moral panic if there’s a shot of someone’s ass shown at 9PM at night.

I like looking at females butts.
Thats exactly why P2P needs to be shut down, too many nudist pics on Bittorrent and usenet.
I can force filter laws, and make you enter your credit card numbers like porn sites, that way ur all tracked, hahahahaha.
I will destroy P2P forever
)))))

“In europe, they show real nudity during daytime TV, but here in the US, people go into a moral panic if thereâs a shot of someoneâs ass shown at 9PM at night.”
Plus, they’re allowed to use words like “shit”, “cock”, etc. I don’t even know if the BBC ever used a bleep noise at all.

How oppressed do you have to be, to regard a person’s rear end as a sexual organ!
While I do not agree with the use of foul language in children’s show, I do feel that it is the parents duty to teach children right from wrong, and not the Broadcasters job.
This reminds be about the group of old ladies, who went around clothing statues, and painting over “obscenities” of famous paintings in the US.
There too many people , not only in the US, who have the misguided ideas that hiding reality can somehow make the reality go away.
Looking through history, one can see that many cultures that have much laxer rules on what is considered lewd, tend to have less sexual related crimes. Whereas cultures with strict rules and laws tend to be faced with more cases of sexual related crimes. Also, there are many cultures which have suffered a communal connection, do to ideals posted by the “white man”. Ideals made by sexually oppressed “holy men” who feel that any form of pleasure is Evil.
Before, it was the busybody Missionaries who were more interested in promoting European and American ethics than Christianity to people who already had a culture for far longer than the missionarys.
Now we have families telling other families to complain about a show that they have not even seen, because it does not go with what they agree with.
And the worst part about it, is that they are even sticking their noses into overseas shows.
Basically, these people are just a bunch of pre-adolescence children that yell out “gross!!” when a teacher tells them to get the “bag of balls”, or when Dick Chaney’s name is mentioned in the news.
They really need to wake up, grow up, and get a life!
Just my two cents

The world’s great civilizations have progressed through
this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; from
spiritual faith to great courage; from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to
apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence back
again into bondage.”

In European countries, they show fully naked men and women on tv and everyone’s totally cool with it. But here, people freak out like it’s armageddon when they see a nipple. This is so messed up!!! Screw the FCC. It’s a violation of our First Amendment rights and they should be taken down. The government shouldn’t tell us what to think or believe about decency or nudity. This is a free country where censorship is immoral and unconstitutional.I wish I lived in Europe, where this kind of stuff doesn’t exist.

I am so sick of the FCC and its [censored] [beeep]! They need to put a [censored] damn rating system on every show.
If there is a child awake at 9pm shame on the parents for letting them be awake past their bedtime. If my 3 year old walks in and see’s a “Grown-up movie” he covers his eyes or turns away…I dont know about most of you people with children but my kids used to bathe with my wife or me. so lighten up FCC screw yer heads on stop going to church and listening to Billy-Bob babble on and on about how we’re all going to hell for watching nudity or listening to cussing.
oh and christianity is not what it used to be…its not a religion anymore its a cult. I know because I live in florida where there is a “church” on just about every corner.
If God wants us he’ll take us when Fate says its time. NOT because you watch television or listen to music… you Holy rolling bitch asses need to grow the hell up and stop whining to the FCC.. better yet un-plug your TV sets and your radios and throw them out the window.. you obviously dont need them anymore.
