p2pnet bans troll posts

p2pnet news | Freedom:- “An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response” ~ Wikipedia
p2pnet went online in 2002 and when I started out, I was virtually by myself in constantly and consistently writing about what was then, and still is, going on with the entertainment cartels as they try to browbeat and terrorise people into becoming unquestioning corporate cash cows.
I tolerated trolls. But that’s changed. These days A) they’re just trying to stir up trouble ‘for fun’; or B), they’re corporate shills trying, and succeeding, to divert attention away from matters at hand.
So from now on, I’ll delete all troll posts that I see, together with responses.
One of them, Musico, said today, “Show you are truly for freedom and free speach [sic] like you keep saying and leave my posts alone.”
I don’t need to ’show’ anything. I’m being sued by a very rich company and, in another separate case, by a very rich individual because I believe people should be allowed to say what they think, whether I agree with them or not.
Freedom of speech doesn’t, however, include allowing fools free rein.
As I said to Musico, “Disagreement is fine. Deliberate and repeated posts designed solely to create dissension, aren’t.”

Fun posts are OK, as long as that’s all they are, and as long as they don’t seriously detract from the issue being discussed.

How do things stand with your law cases?

I posted this in a different thread, but I think it actually belongs here.
This situation is actually closer to a ‘House Party’ than a public gathering.
Analogous to a group of people invited to a private residence.
If a guest at this private party gets out of line, does nothing but start
problems, makes things uncomfortable for other guests, the property owner
has the right to ask him to leave or have him removed from his private
property. Free speech isn’t the issue in this situation at all.
This is a virtual ‘private party’. We are here as guests in jon’s private space.
He has the full right to kick out anyone who comes here just to cause trouble,
and it has nothing to do with ‘free speech’.
Or Censorship.
Censorship is a government making sure that sites like this
are not allowed to exist, let alone flourish.

Each major anti RIAA/MPAA sites with forum are infested with Troll paid by the RIAA/MPAA CRIAA, BPI, Vivendi and so forth. This tell you how much a forum such as this one hurt them!
If you ban them these mercenaries lose ther income this is why they are so piss off by such a ban!
Continue the good work Jon!
You are my hero!

Paulus > On the Nikki Hemming case, I haven’t heard anything from them for months so I don’t know what they have in mind.
And on the Crookes case&, they haven’t set it for trial. But I’ll shortly bringing a motion for dismissal on the vital question of whether or not merely hyperlinking to something equals liability.
Cheers!

Ddbann demonstrates that someone can disagree and yet
debate intelligently, without attacking others. Kudos and respect.

Your Crookes case will be important Canada

No kidding! Linking is what the Net is all about. We might as well close our accounts and start using carrier pigeons if Crookes wins.
But then he’d sue for a ban on those as well
Cheers!

“ALL YOUR TROLLS ARE BELONG TO US” -

Trolls have no place on the net.
And as for trolls who cry free speech, this is not a publicly funded site, but a privately owned site. The owner is not required to accept any comment blind sighted.
If your only place in life, is trying to make other angry, then find another site to post at, or better yet, make your own rant site or blog.
just my two cents

Anyone operating their own forum meets this problem at some stage in its lifespan, the rights to free speech versus the rights to disregard abusive posters is often hotly debated and often leaves an acrimonious taste for all involved.
The rule of thumb I use is a fairly simple one, do they make their point without launching into unecessarily personal attacks on folks, in short is respect to other posters opinions shown in exchange for the right to make posts ?
If its clear there is no respect for the opinions of others then for the good of the community and you sanity, it is best to deny the trolls the attention they crave, whilst we all do our best to ensure valid and vibrant discussion topics are what we deliver up to visitors, the reality of life sadly is that sometimes our hands are forced and as Jon has done we make our regret public but act firmly.

” This forum is now so much more pleasant without
the likes of musico, RIAA REP etc spoiling things for your followers.
Everyone obeying the House rules and towing the party line
on file sharing and the general opinions of your site, feels just great.
Thank you very much jon. ”
That was not my post.
Looks like he’s going to troll using my name.
I’ll e-mail you right now to confirm this Jon, since you have
my real e-mail addy and RL name.

Every troll I’ve ever seen had this ‘free speech’ hidden card.

It’s not really trolling when the troller blatantly does it.
