Girl, 12, lured for sex on MySpace

p2pnet news | Crime:- Another young MySpace user —- this time a girl aged 12 —- has been lured into having sex with a 21-year-old man.

A US mother became worried about what her 12-year-old daughter was getting up to online. So she installed spyware tracker on the home PC.

And the mother’s fears led to the arrest of 21-year-old Christopher Griswold for allegedly using MySpace.com, "to engage a 12-year-old Region 10 student in an ‘inappropriate relationship’," says the Bristol Press.

Now Griswold is being charged with two counts each of first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor and enticing a minor, says the story, adding:

"MySpace.com markets itself as a place for people to meet, and claims to have age restrictions barring people younger than 18 from using the site, but many youths ignore the age restriction.

"In the past few years, MySpace has come under scrutiny because numerous sexual relationship cases between adults and minors have been traced back to the site by law enforcement agencies."

Bad parent for paying so little attention that her TWELVE YEAR OLD was able to do this.

Last I checked it was 14.

The above poster is absolutely right. If the girl’s mother had been doing her job, she would have been able to put a stop to this herself, instead of relying on spyware as a babysitter. Clearly, her actions were for her kid’s safety, but how are they going to affect her relationship with her daughter now? She violated her kid’s privacy, and betrayed her trust to gather info about her without her consent. If she was half the mother she should be, she would have been able find out what was going on, without snooping around like that.

theres a lot more issues at work here other than negligent observation. im sure that 12 years of good parenting before this happened would have helped a lot as well…

    Knock on wood ..
So far no problems like that here, but ever since they have been old enough
to have their own computers, my kids have known, from day one that I would
be constantly checking. They also know that as a very experienced PC tech,
there was absolutely nothing they could put past me.

They are 17 now, so I monitor them a lot less, but they know I still
spot check, and will continue to do so until they move out.

Sounds like she did do her job, and put a stop to it.
I see this all the time, most kids are far more tech saavy then their parents, and
no parent can sit behind them 34/7 looking over their shoulder.
Mom suspected something was up, and found a way to confirm her suspicions.
We all do the best we can, I hope everyone can do better when it’s their turn to
    wear the shoes.

That must put a damper on the porn watching. :)

About the story; Did the girl actually have sex with the guy or just talk to him on the net? The story doesn’t make it clear. If they only talked, those charges are fairly excessive.

Ahem doesn’t that translate in ya can screw with anyone on myspace? Same thing goes for nigh clubs that say 18+. Just think about it why would i have to do other people’s jobs? From the time i enter the club i am guaranteed that everyone in there is 18 or over IF NOT sue the damn club for miss advertising and use of actions to facilitate underage sexual relationships.(Because thats what u are doing if u let underaged people get in).

Same goes for myspace. Myspace and her mother should be sued for actions that facilitate underage sexual relationships.
-Her mother allowed her to use myspace thus facilitating sexual relationships.
-Myspace allowed underage people to join a relationships site. Thus facilitating underage sexual relationships.

Isn’t our world beautiful with its wide range of pretty Hypocrites exemplars.

I also wanted to add that too many parents these days censor most of the information they allow they’re children to consume.
Many of them are not aware that the world changed a lot since they where they’re kids age and that people are confronted with mature decisions more and more earlier then before.
Thus education your children as soon as possible on sex/relationships/drugs/politics and anything that can affect they’re life in a meaningful matter.

The more u w8 the bigger the risk you child will take a uneducated action in a dangerous situation.

It is you the parent that is liable for anything that happens to your child due to the fact that he did have the required information to perform an educated action.

Also most parents give to little credit to they’re children being able to handle things for them selfs. This also leading to too much pressure take from the children that strips them from the life saving experience you gain from the confrontation with life’s unpredictable situations leaving them vulnerable to make mistakes when it really matters.

    “allow they’re children”
    “where they’re kids age”
    “Thus education your children”
    “affect they’re life”
    “more u w8 the bigger”
    “risk you child”
    “give to little credit”
    “to they’re children”
    “This also leading to”

Yes, please talk to your children, but leave the English lessons for qualified educators. :)

(How am I “posting comments too quickly” when this is the first comment I’ve left in more than 24 hours?)

  9. The Angry Offender Says:

Some people in this world are just fuckin’ stupid. Apply that how you will. The subjects of this article, the commenters…whatever. Some people are just fuckin’ stupid.

  10. x3style Says:

    @Rekrul
I think you’d figgure by now that English is not my native language. And Making a comparison i speak 2 foreign languages assuming english is your native language i know english far better then u will ever know my nativ language so the point was to send a message not to make a perfectly gamatical correct writing.

But then again i think you didnt get anything i say and just like trolling.
