Ryanair school-girl hottie ad
p2pnet news | Off Topic:- UK budget airline Ryanair has in effect told the country’s Advertising Standards Agency what to do with its demand that it pull an advertisement.
The agency ruling is ‘Monty Pythonesque’ and nothing short of censorship, says the airline, according to MediaBuyerPlanner.
“Press ads in the Herald, Daily Mail and Scottish Daily Mail were headed ‘HOTTEST BACK TO SCHOOL FARES.’ Underneath the heading was a picture of a teenage girl or woman standing in a classroom and wearing a version of a school uniform consisting of a short tartan skirt, a cropped short sleeved shirt and tie and long white socks,” says the ASA.
It, “considered the model’s clothing, which included long white socks and a tie, together with the setting of the ad in a classroom strongly suggested she was a schoolgirl,” it says, adding:
We considered that her appearance and pose, in conjunction with the heading “HOTTEST,” appeared to link teenage girls with sexually provocative behaviour and was irresponsible and likely to cause serious or widespread offence.
Maybe it’s, “time to finally ditch the oft-made comparison between Southwest Airlines and Ryanair, the uber-low-cost European carrier that makes the former look positively first class,” says the Los Angeles Times, going on:
“Yep, Southwest sets a different mood by dressing its flight attendants in more casual, shorts and T-shirt uniforms, while Ryanair entices
passengers to its planes with pictures of …… jail bait - how far we Americans have yet to go.”
Nor is this Ryanair’s first negative ad experience.
“French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his girlfriend Carla Bruni are suing low-cost airline Ryanair over a picture of the couple it used in an advert,” says the BBC.
“The photo shows a thought bubble coming from Ms Bruni, saying: ‘With Ryanair, all my family can attend my wedding.’
“The former model is seeking 500,000 euros ($743,000; £373,000) - the amount she says her photo normally costs.
“Ryanair has apologised for using the couple’s image without their consent, but insists it meant no offence.”
Wonder what kind of ad the world’s first naked airline will come up with?
Should be interesting.

No. It is not Pythonesque. What would be Pythonesque is if they were comparing flying their airline with an orchestra of dead dogs playing “Theme from A Summer Place”. Or maybe the girl eats Whizzo Chocolates?
