Go for a walk, power your phone

p2pnet news | Product News:- Going for a walk has taken on a new meaning in Canada.
For the past 10 years Dr Max Donelan, from the Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, has been working on ways to harness people power —- how to capture the energy generated when you’re out for a stroll.
He succeeded and his Biomechanical Energy Harvester is featured in today’s edition of the academic journal Science.
True bionic power.
His energy collection system, which looks like an orthopedic knee brace, can generate up to five watts of power without any noticeable effort for the wearer and a mere one minute of walking could deliver enough power to support 10 minutes worth of talk time on a typical mobile phone, he says.
"It opens up new frontiers for soldiers, the disabled, and others who really depend on portable power," says Yad Garcha, CEO of Bionic Power, which developed the invention.
Privately-held Bionic Power is exploring strategic partnerships in the defense and biomedical markets and expects to expand into consumer-electronics.

Sweet!

Interesting. Although, this combined with chips embedded inside us, are just more steps toward a cybernetic future and eventually ‘The Matrix’. Saving 5 bucks on my walkman batteries is cool, but this seems pretty creepy to me. I would just go without a walkman at all! Whoops, I already got rid of it.

The Matrix?
This is old tech, not scary, ignorant scientology!
Watches have had similar tech in them for decades.
You could just as easily buy some trousers with this built in and hardly noticeable.
Does that make them cybernetic, scary Matrix pants?
Would you refuse to wear them in case the low voltages shocked your miniature genitalia?
Yes. Just buy those environmentally friendly batteries and drive your environmentally friendly massive 4×4 with platinum rims and smoke your healthy cigarettes. It’s your planet. Fear it and rape it.
