Apple iGames console

p2pnet news | Games:- Is Apple getting set to launch an iGames console?
It filed to protect its Apple trademark, "in relation to ‘hand-held units for playing electronic games; hand-held units for playing video games; stand alone video game machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with television receivers only; LCD game machines; electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games’," says an application quoted by trademork.com, going on:
While analyst predictions and rumors of an Apple handheld gaming unit have been around for a while, little prior to this trademark filing has supported that any kind of ‘iGame’ type unit is actually being developed. The exception was recent news from AppleInsider that Apple would be forming a closer bond with once-rival Intel in 2008 and begin building a new breed of ultra-mobile processors from the chipmaker into a fresh generation of handheld gadgets.
Mork will give you a topic: Can Apple transform portable gaming like they did portable music?
Well, "With the enormous popularity of the iPhone and the phenomenal success of the iPod, anything handheld from Apple seems like a sure fire hit," says Kotaku.
On the other hand, though, "you have Apple’s inability to bring a lot of quality games to their platforms. If this gaming device does come to fruition, will it end up being the next DS or just another Gizmondo?"
While, "the obvious initial thought may be to turn the Apple TV into a gaming console, it wouldn’t surprise me if Apple’s real intentions weren’t so straight-forward," says ParisLemon.
"Apple’s current crop of games sold in the iTunes store only work on ‘traditional’ iPods - they don’t take advantage of the iPod Touch or the iPhone’s Multi-Touch capabilities. Clearly Apple is going to take their games in this direction eventually, but the fact that they haven’t done it yet seems to indicate they are working on something fairly large for it."
And, "Apple has been known to be recruiting game developers back in 2006, and has authored a number of the existing iPod games," says MacRumours.
"In the mid 90’s, Apple did launch a short lived game console called Pippin."

In a word, no. Apple doesn’t have any prior games hardware experience, and nor does it have bottomless pits of money to prop up a games console venture the way Microsoft did for five years.

actually, apple definitely has previous game hardware experience.
it’s called the Pippin.
i just kinda thought they’d learned their lesson.
while i love lots of apple stuff, i don’t think there’s room for an apple hand held. the DS is crushing the PSP as it is.
