Movie ‘pirate’ maVen — on the run?

p2pnet news | Movies:- Montreal’s Gérémi Adam, 25, aka maVen, said to have illegally distributed camcorded flicks online, is apparently on the run.
He failed to turn up at a slated court appearance at the end of last month and now a warrant has been issued, says the Canadian Press.
Arrested after he was said to have camecorded How to Eat Fried Worms and Invincible, he faces two counts of knowingly distributing copyrighted material.
The Mounties and FBI, “investigated Adams for four months, and allege he was a world leader in film piracy,” said CTV, adding:
“Adams faces charges under the Copyright Act rather than Canada’s new anti-piracy law, because he was arrested in September 2006.
“Officials spent the past 14 months gathering evidence against Adams. It’s the first time the RCMP has used the Copyright Act to fight the alleged distribution of pirated films on the Internet.”
He’s looking at a maximum $25,000 fine or six-months in jail.
Six days after his arrest, Montreal police also grabbed another Montreal man, Louis René Haché, 23, said to have recorded Dan in Real Life at a Guzzo theatre.
Unlike Adam, Haché was charged under the Criminal Code and faces one count of recording in a movie theatre and one count of recording in a movie theatre for commercial distribution.
The pic on the right shows Vincent Guzzo. He’s the one without the camcorder
Back in June, 2007, Julie Berthiaume and her two young daughters went to see a movie at the Marche Central Guzzo wehen she was asked to undergo a bag search.
She didn’t like the idea but said okay, according to CJAD, which went on:
Berthiaume says the theatre worker rummaged through her bag with both hands in a very rough manner.
She says she didn’t have a camera and wasn’t going to pirate the movie.
Berthiaume is suing Guzzo for 60-thousand dollars, claiming physical and moral suffering and a loss of enjoyment of life.
Stay tuned.
