Apologies to the Anonymous anonymi

p2pnet news view | P2P:- “I can’t figure out a few things here,” says Bananymous under my Demonstrators storm Scientology HQs post.

“Xenu, for example, isn’t that hard to spell,” s/he says, “but you managed to find at least three ways to do it,” going on:

Xenu.net is not an Anonymous site. It is run by Andreas Heldal-Lund, a Norwegian critic of the ‘church.’

Jon, I dont want to hurt your feelings, but this is just very poorly researched and badly written. The following sentence is wrong in so very many ways;

“Wearing Guy Fawkes masks, they massed outside HQs around the world to cult disrupt business.”

We were not there to ‘cult disrupt business.’ We were there to inform people about the abusive behavior this organization has indulged in for far too long. You need to use your spell checker, assure yourself of the facts and proof your work before posting it.

And finally, what is this confabulation about Anonymous’ next target? The RIAA and MPAA? Did I miss the memo, or are you trying to stir up panic at the corporate level?

You are right about one thing. This began with the web, but it won’t end there. It has emerged into real life, with over 9000 participants joining to protest Scientology abuses (not beliefs) on an unprecedented global scale!

The next event will be on the Ides of March.

Expect us.

Bananymous is correct. I made mistakes. The story was posted at the end of another very long day, I was careless, and I apologise.

However, I’d still describe this as a massive demonstration which I suspect was designed as much catch the jaundiced eye of the mainstream media as it was to inform people. Which it did. In spades. And no doubt, in the process, a lot of people who’d never before given too much thought to the awful dangers presented by the Cult of Scientology have received an awakening.

In the reference to the MPAA and RIAA, I was implying the entertainment cartel enforcers might soon find the same thing happening to them.

Meanwhile, I’m only one guy and I try, every day, to cover issues which are often missed or warped by the corporate press. I do my best, but I’m not perfect.

I’ll try to be more careful in March.

Cheers!

Hi Jon, Thank you so much for the clarification on that.

Some really wise anonymous dude said “All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to remain quiet.”

I think all we really want is for the Church of Scientology to be thoroughly investigated to the satisfaction of the many people who are concerned about them. We want to know if they are really as harmless as they claim to be. We want to know if they truly do deserve the tax breaks that not even Catholics or Jewish get.
An organization with nothing to hide would more than welcome the chance to be investigated to clear up the “misunderstandings” we may have about them. Then everybody can coexist happily assured that there isn’t something sinister amongst us.

You are cordially invited to celebrate LRHubbard’s b-day with us in the form of protest on March 15th ;^)

  2. Reader's Write Says:

    WTF is anonymi?

  3. Lemony Cricket Says:

Reader’s Write, that’s the plural form of “Anonymous”. Of course, in this context, the plural form of the group Anonymous is simply Anonymous, but meh.

  4. Naonymous Says:

    Meh too.

  5. Anony Says:

Dictionary.com says about the derivation of “Anonymous:”

“From Late Latin anōnymus, from Greek anōnumos…”
So it seems that the -os ending has been adapted (rather than borrowed) into -us, which probably led to a paradigmatic leveling that would generate such a form as “anonymi” in the genitive singular and nominative plural. I think it’s okay.

As for the response, thank you :)

    Happy Valentine’s Day,
    Anonymi

  6. Rekrul Says:

    nonya,

Of course they’re not harmless. All you have to do is look at the long list of lives they’ve ruined.

  7. Jon Says:

    @ Anony

OK, OK. I admit it. I made ‘anonymi’ up :)

    Cheers!

  8. Reader's Write Says:

Nah guys, this whole thing is just an IRC conspiracy to shine the limelight on the newfags destroying our once sacred imageboards.

  9. Free Thinker Says:

We all make mistakes Jon and it’s pretty big of you to own up like that. I know what it’s like to work when not feeling well and tired, so I can understand confuddlements like this.

Keep up the good work. You do a really good job at exposing shit organisations like Scientology and the RIAA/MPAA who like nothing better than to ruin people’s lives in the name of corporate profit. :)
