Ontario kiddie porn arrests

p2pnet news | Crime:- Twenty three people have been arrested in Ontario, all of them allegedly involved child pornography.

“Investigators from 16 police forces in towns and cities in every region of the province swept in to arrest dozens of suspected users, distributors and producers of child pornography in a mass arrest,” says the National Post, going on:

“Those arrested range in age from a teenager in Hamilton to a 65-year-old man in Toronto, according to Staff-Sergeant Frank Goldschmidt of the province’s Internet Child Protection Strategy, a multi-agency task force to combat child pornography. They were arrested in communities from Red Lake, 500 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay, to Cornwall.”

Police forces, “from London to Ottawa and as far north as Red Lake stormed into homes Monday, arresting 22 people, including a 28-year-old woman from Whitby and a young offender from Hamilton,” says the Toronto Star.

A Toronto man turned himself into police later that evening, the story says, and three other suspects from Hamilton, York Region and Ottawa are still free.

“The alleged offenders, who come from all walks of life and range in age from under 18 to 65, are not linked to one another, police said, but were chosen from thousands of possible perpetrators,” it says, going on:

“While officers remain tight-lipped about how they decided on who to arrest, police said priority is always given to those known to police, alleged offenders who occupy positions of authority with children or those who have a history of abusing kids.

“No victims were discovered during the busts, which police have had in the works since January.

“Police won’t elaborate on how they caught these alleged perpetrators, but their methods include undercover officers chatting online under assumed identities and software designed to identify computers involved in the distribution of child pornography by their serial numbers and Internet Protocol addresses.”

Crimes of any kind against children a terrible it’s good to see enforcement agencies everywhere trying to deal with it.

However, at the same time, one hopes the police are being careful to make sure the people they arrest are genuine offenders so innocent victims aren’t also caught up in the anti-kiddie porn sweeps.

Definitely stay tuned.
