Tele2 to fight ‘block The Pirate Bay’ order

p2pnet news | P2P:- Danish ISP Tele2 says it’ll fight a court order telling it to shut down access to The Pirate Bay.

But, "Our overall view is we don’t actually want to take sides in this dispute between IFPI and The Pirate Bay," IDG News Service has the company’s Nicholai Pfeiffer saying.

"Tele2 didn’t choose to block access (or rather, to filter DNS-queries)," said Anders in a comment post to a p2pnet story, "they’ve been explicitly ordered to do so.

"As was the case with allofmp3 a while back, Tele2 did argue their case, and did try to avoid having to do this. One of the effects of this, is that Tele2 (or any other ISP operating here in Denmark) could be held responsible for filesharing carried out by their users – something that might be close to any ISP’s worst nightmare.

"Therefore, Tele2 doesn’t like this anymore than we do, but they have little choice but to comply. Since circumvention of this is rather easy (switch dns-server, edit your hosts-file, use the ip-address instead, whatever), boycotting Tele2 really would be rather stupid – they’re actually fighting as a temporary ally in these particular cases (TPB wasn’t the first in Denmark and they sure as hell won’t be last, now that IFPI can taste blood here)."

Tele2 has met with representatives of other ISPs and will challenge the injunction, said Pfeiffer, Tele2’s chief of regulations, according to IDG, and, "As a result, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) is understood to have filed on Tuesday a further justification for the injunction with the court," it has Pfeiffer saying.

"No other Danish ISP has been ordered to shut off access to The Pirate Bay. However, IFPI plans to send letters this week to other Danish ISPs asking them to also block The Pirate Bay, said Jesper Bay , spokesman," says the story.

"Whether they are going to do that or not, it’s up to them," it quotes Bay as stating, adding Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG’s IFPI, "hasn’t decided whether to pursue more injunctions."

Says Pfeiffer in the story, "Our overall view is we don’t actually want to take sides in this dispute between IFPI and The Pirate Bay."
