Web Sheriff vs Village People Nazis

p2pnet news | P2P:- Disco band Village People is the latest crew to bring the deputies into town.
Arctic Monkeys, which owes its initial popularity to P2P file-sharers, later used so-called Web Sheriff to give the finger to downloading fans, His Purpleness, Prince, did the same, and now, “In a twin assault, the Web Sheriff anti-piracy outfit is looking to recruit Swedish group ABBA to fight against The (Evil) Pirate Bay, and at the same time launching legal action against on behalf of The Village People,” says TorrentFreak.
Village People’s YMCA has been merged with old WWII flicks featuring Adolf Hitler and other Nazis, the hilarious results being posted onYouTube.
So John Giacobbi, the oily depity who runs Web Sheriff, sends notices to GooTube ordering it to remove the video.
But each time it complies, someone posts another version, and so it goes.
Meanwhile, “Interesting is Giacobbi’s attempt to recruit Swedish (I think I can use the words) mega-group, ABBA, to become some type of positive, cleansing influence to counter the dark forces of The Pirate Bay,” says TorrentFreak’s enigmax, going on:
“This is good versus evil on a scale never experienced before, or at least the chosen imagery implies as much.”
He also has Giacobbi saying, “It would be also be good/appropriate if the members of ABBA could take up the fight against these pirates, as they personify the Swedish music industry’s successes and are renowned ambassadors for Sweden, contrary to The Pirate Bay.”

Has anyone even asked ABBA how they feel about file sharing?

Has anyone asked Hitler how he feels about the village people?

In mentioning Abba, Web Sheriff has put out a feeler in hopes. It would be a big feather in their caps to get big name groups on the ticket, paying them. I would believe they think that having big names would draw yet other big names. If not Abba themselves then maybe their label which would have a greater financial interest in this sort of thing. So to me, this is a sort of ad within an article or a fishing expedition.
Village People didn’t have any staying time as far as classics go. Which is the problem with today’s music when you get down to it.

Surely parody is fair use? Or are these people that intent on controlling every aspect of our lives that they want to remove fair use?

“Or are these people that intent on controlling every aspect of our lives that they want to remove fair use?”
As far as they’re concerned “fair use” is a cop-out that so far, they haven’t had any luck in getting the courts to see for the crime it is.
