Paramount ‘Live Video’ deal

p2pnet news | Games:- Remember Microsoft Money?

"Microsoft just invented a currency, ‘and they require you to invest in this currency before they can sell you any music’," p2pnet posted in 2006.

Bill and the Boyz call their new $ Microsoft Points, but we call them Bill Pennies and starting tomorrow, you can use them to rent movies.

Yes!

"Microsoft has unveiled a fancy deal with Paramount to offer its old and new films on the Live Video Store in the UK, kicking off with a host of movies – including Transformers," says GamesIndustryBiz.

"They will be joined over the coming weeks and throughout the rest of Spring by other existing titles and new releases from the studio, including 1408 and Naked Gun, as well as new titles from Warner Bros, with Beowulf, and The Assassination of Jesse James among them."

How much?

Titles will cost from 250 Microsoft Points ($4.15, GBP 2.13 / EUR 3) for "standard definition movies" and from 380 Microsoft Points ($6.30, GBP 3.23 / EUR 4.56) for high definition movies.

Xbox, Microsoft’s gaming brand, launched its download-to-rent service in December, rolling out more than 40 titles through a deal with Warner Bros, notes the Guardian, adding:

"Xbox Live also offers games and music videos, through deals with Sony BMG, Ministry of Sound, VidZone and PIAS Entertainment.

"Microsoft wants Xbox to become ‘the centre of digital entertainment in the living room’ as content companies battle to reach viewers through the TV, web and games consoles."

With the coming demise of HD DVD, at around $400, Sony’s PlayStation 3 console is for the moment the cheapest Blu-Ray player in town.

The flicks will, of course, come pre-loaded with DRM.

Once you’ve paid your money and downloaded the movie, you’ll have two weeks to watch it, and it’ll commit suicide 24 hours after you start.
