The OS will run from the CD without messing up your HD. DON't INSTALL IT! JUST RUN IT FOR A TEST! It worked very well on my AMD 64 duo self builded machine with at mach speed mother board. Of course it is significantly slower than running it from the HD althoug it is already surprising fast. It will let you test the hardware/ drivers combination already available. Alternatively you can get a version of Window 2000. (If you can not find it download it for BT) It is a great OS still up to date still running every thing you really need, better than apple OS X but not as secure as Linux though. I got a Thoshiba Sattellite with duo-core 64 AMD Processor, 2 GHZ, 2GB RAM and a 160gb HD with Vista PRemium home edition and the dam shit is crawling crawling and crawling! Without mentioning all the bugs some of them really really enoying. The worst bug is the screen blacking out when the thingy try to go into sleep mode. Apparently a bug in the video driver DRM! I got really tired of this so I decided to downgrade back to XP. When I asked Microsoft for that they told me that I don't qualify for it. So I got a version of XP corporate and installed it. The thing run great at lighting speed save of course for all the enoying stupid microsoft idea enoying pop-up message and so forth. Big problem: I could not find the right driver for the graphic board, the sound card, the Ethernet card, the wifi card. The default driver for the graphic card is working but not to good on this system. I am now trying to install a version of LInux and I hope I can find the right drivers for this.
