Russell Simmons steps up for Obama
p2pnet news | Politics:- Last year Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Recordings, criticized Barack Obama, saying his comments comparing Don Imus’ "racially disparaging remark about the Rutgers University women’s basketball team to rappers’ lyrics," says the New York Times.
But Simmons seems to be over that and is the latest celebrity to sign up for the Obama bandwagon.
The endorsement is considered important, "because in addition to his influence among the hip-hop generation, Simmons chairs the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network," says TampaBays10, going on:
"While the organization is non-profit and non-partisan, Simmons says he is ‘in complete solidarity’ with the consciousness of the growing number of artists and young people from the hip-hop generation’ who are supporting Obama."
The Daily Voice had Simmons saying a year ago:
"If you could take Barack Obama’s image, add Hillary Rodham Clinton’s money and John Edwards’ voice, that would be my candidate."
Obama has since surpassed Clinton in fundraising and Edwards has dropped out of the race, notes the story.
