Coming the old Acid(3)
p2pnet news | Freedom:- IE8 beta 1 passed the acid 2 test, but, "it fails the Acid 3 test horribly," says a Reader’s Write to a p2pnet story is saying Bill and the Boyz have released the first beta of their Internet Explorer 8.
But it isn’t alone.
The Web Standards Project (WaSP) announced last Monday that it unleashed Acid2’s successor, Acid3," says Daily Tech, going on:
"Currently, no known browser is able to correctly render the Acid3 test, which displays an animated, incrementing score counter and a series of colored boxes with some description text.
"Bloggers have already assembled galleries of browsers’ failing test results, with most of today’s browsers scoring between 40 and 60 on the test’s 100-point scale."
Meanwhile, anecdotal reports, "seem to indicate that nightly builds of the next versions of Firefox and Safari are reportedly achieving Acid3 scores in the 80-90 range," says Daily Tech, adding:
"Given the state of the web today - where web designers will often write two versions of a web site: one for Internet Explorer and one for everyone else - Microsoft’s announcement that Internet Explorer 8 passed Acid2 is all the more important. Currently, each new version of Internet Explorer keeps older versions’ flaws for compatibility, resulting in a confusing state of affairs for web developers.
"The release of IE7 complicated matters further, as it shipped with both an IE6-compatibility mode and a somewhat-standards-compliant IE7 rendering mode, with an easily overlooked method for switching between the two. As a result, Internet Explorer earned a nasty reputation among web design circles, with developers writing safe, proven websites that worked universally instead of rich websites that exercised the their languages’ full features.
"In time, it is hoped that Internet Explorer 8 will see the end of this rift, as it will ship with the new Acid2-passing standards-compliant mode switched on and used by default."
It’s been three years, "since we told browser makes that we want to see them smile, but now we wanna hold their hand," says WaSP, continuing:
"Acid3 goes beyond the CSS tests implemented by Acid2 and tests a browser’s DOM Scripting capability, as well as continuing to probe visual rendering of CSS, SVG and webfonts. Further information can be found on the Acid3 page, in the press release, or you can just go ahead and take the test.
"We know that work is already underway based on the Acid3 previews, but time will tell which browser is the first to pass all 100 tests fully, and with default settings.
"This is going to be interesting."

As far as I am concerned……the acid tests are a joke….Websites…should be easy to use ….PERIOD. The more crap (animations,flash,java….etc.) you ad the worse the experience is.
The best sites are based on (KISS)….KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID.

amen.
the ACID test is bullshit and doesn’t take into account security messures browsers need today.
IE8 with no security passed the acid3 test, but who in their right mind wants no security.
I think the creators of the ACID3 are purposely trying to use this as method to embarass Bill and the Boyz.
Remember that IE8 is still in beta, so is Safari and as far as I’m concerned Firefox 2 is still a prebuild since it still runs like a dog compared to Safari, IE, and Opera.
Lets wait until IE8 is released to see how the acid3 test goes.
but once again the acid test is bullshit
