Golfer hits a birdie — literally

p2pnet news | Off Topic:- Professional golfer Tripp Isenhour hit a birdie.
And now he’s in trouble.
His "one-in-a-million," but deliberate, golf shot killed a protected red-shouldered hawk.
"Investigators say Isenhour got upset because the hawk’s loud chirps interrupted the filming of his instructional video," says the Boston Herald, going on he was charged with animal cruelty and killing a migratory bird and could face 14 months in jail and $1,500 in fines.
But Isenhour denies he was angry.
"What happened was, you know, the bird was making noise, but the fact that I was upset was inaccurate," the story has him saying.
"There were several others trying to get the bird to simply fly away. That’s all we were trying to do. The bird was high up in the tree and I was simply just tying to hit the tree to make the bird fly away."
The PGA Tour hasn’t decided whether or not it’ll take action against Isenhour, says the Los Angeles Times.
"Obviously, any set of facts which involve an individual hitting a golf ball at a living target is clearly inappropriate behavior," it has Ty Votaw, PGA Tour executive vice president, saying.
"Tripp has publicly apologized and has expressed remorse and regret about his actions. We find this entire incident regrettable and unfortunate."

Good thing he only used a golf ball, a stone would have been twice as bad.

That was just bad luck. Get the 10 world best golfers and give ‘em 100 balls each and see if they can hit an object the size of that bird at a distance equal to the distance this guy hit that hawk from, and then pass judgement. This is just a case of %ucking Murphy’s, period.

So fine the guy, but jail time? For killing a bird? That’s ludicricous.

They want to put this guy in jail for what was clearly an unintended action?
Jeez… this is why prisons are overcrowded. Morons.

On a technical note the Migratory Bird Treaty Act is an absolute liability law. That means intent has nothing to do with the killing of the hawk. That also means hitting a bird with your car is also a crime. The hawk and owl protection act is not an absolute liability act. Each state is different in terms of wildlife laws. I agree that the chances of hitting a hawk with a golf ball are remote at best. Most people could not hit the hawk with a bullet from a rifle. Political correctness is a cancer on the land. Just go play the great game of golf and forget about it.
