If only that horrible place *would* go offline. It’s nothing but a vat of ego, nonsense, and misinformation–and all under the guise of democratic scholarship.

Jon is just being deliberately shocking to get readers. If he’d said “Wikipedia is going portable” it wouldn’t have got so many hits… By the way, this is not the first project to make wikipedia available, in a limited way, without Internet access.

I think the title of this article is somewhat misleading, I also thought that Wikipedia was shutting down at first.

I think you need to read the article one more time. By “offline” they mean they are making wikipedia books, videos, and other non-internet resources. It is NOT saying that the website will be taken down.

Wikipedia off line? that would be a huge mistake, people are going to shoot themselves. It took years to make it finally be a viabloe source and now, gosh i hope somone in the company leaks the DB back up….
