Huge CRIA audiomaxxx.com screw up

p2pnet news special | (C)RIAA News:- Canadian RIAA clone the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association of America) has been forced to confess to a massive screw-up involving audiomaxxx.com, taken down in an RCMP raid.
When p2pnet posted a story on the incident, we thought it was an example of Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG successfully nailing a genuine counterfeiting crook instead of going after their own customers, whom they’re calling file sharing thieves and criminals.
Good work, we thought, and today, if you try to log on to audiomaxxx.com, it still says, “The server at audiomaxxx.com is taking too long to respond”.
Earlier, “Following a year-long investigation by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), the RCMP has shut down Audiomaxxx.com Ltd., a major alleged music counterfeiting operation in Winnipeg, and filed criminal charges against four individuals,” said the Winnipeg Sun.
We didn’t bother to mention the (C)RIAA in our first post. Why give it free PR? However, mouthperson Graham Henderson said the ‘operation’ was the largest he’d seen, according to the story, which continues >>>
This is the Big Kahuna,” said Henderson, whose organization helped investigate Audiomaxx, which RCMP say sent counterfeit product to thousands of international buyers every week.
Anytime you shut down something as big as this, it has an impact.
Audiomaxxx, “made its name selling reggae and house-mix CDs and a large catalogue of porn flicks for between US$3 and $6 a pop,” says the Winnipeg Sun, citing domain ownership records as saying, “the site was registered to Ramgotra, known as ‘King Raj’ to customers, in 2000.
“Sources say Ramgotra was one of four people arrested during the raid and now faces numerous charges.”
Sources, eh? Wonder who?
The story has RCMP sergeant Line Karpish (right) confirming a, “31-year-old man faces charges and was released on a promise to appear, while three others were released pending further investigation”.
[The] ‘CRIA regrets the error …’
In our post, we said, “At the bottom of the site, ‘© 2006 Audiomax Movements International / AudioMaxxx.com. All Rights Reserved.’
“In fact, nothing had been reserved. Or licenced.”
But, “How do you know this?” – asks the Northworthy blog’s Lawrence in a p2pnet Reader’s Write, going on >>>
There have been no charges laid. Yet. From Alexa traffic they seem to have offended a lot of people while also apparently retailing via dance parties the DJ mixes … Did you think that maybe popular DJ’s use these guys for their stuff rather than making it themselves?
Note: I am not defending what they were doing. I just want to know who has been charged in this, facing criminal charges, like right now. The answer is apparently no one cause the evidence for the search warrant must have presented a challenge.
Check out www.audiomaxxx.net … where someone has used a proxy domain service to post a CRIA press release that the CRIA took down. There was a problem in the plans they had to publicize the event that I would suspect in the what evidence they actually found.
Check out my blog post too if you like: http://northworthy.blogspot.com/2008/03/put-finger-down-your-throat-at-media.html
That is my .02 cents. Don’t know anything just like … others.
Meanwhile, the CRIA press release and site admit:
TORONTO, March 7 /CNW/ – In the CRIA media release of March 6, it was erroneously reported that RCMP had filed criminal charges against four people in connection with the RCMP investigation into Audiomaxxx.com Ltd. CRIA has received information that no one has been charged with an offence in respect of this matter.
In the same media release, it was also reported that Raj Singh Ramgotra was among those arrested. CRIA cannot confirm the identities of any of those arrested and therefore retracts its statement to the effect that Mr. Ramgotra was arrested.
CRIA regrets the error.
On Northworthy, Lawrence gives chapter and verse on the entire farce, including this update >>>
The first CRIA “News Release” published March 6th, 2008 is no longer available from the CRIA’s website. The current correction they publish does not point to the prior publication because I think they are afraid of the private person they named suing them: if the police won’t name him, this has caused a challenge to the CRIA having named him. This is bizarre as Michael Geist picked up on in his blog.
Blogged Geist on March 6 >>>
I’m at Canadian Music Week in Toronto this week (where a representative of the RIAA urged Canadians to increase the “hassle” factor of P2P by launching lawsuits and polluting the P2P networks with fake files) where CRIA just issued a press release heralding the shut down and arrest of a major music counterfeiting operation in Manitoba. The release claims that 30 percent of pirated CDs seized in Toronto originate from the operation. CRIA’s Graham Henderson is quoted as saying that “today’s arrests send out a clear message that commercial piracy will no longer be tolerated in Canada.” I’m not sure that commercial piracy was ever tolerated in Canada, but I’m in agreement that this is good news. Commercial piracy – which can and should be distinguished from non-commercial cases – should not be tolerated and it is good to see that Canadian law and Canadian law enforcement are clearly up to the challenge of dealing with the issue.
Update: In a rather bizarre chain of events, CRIA issued a correction to this initial release last night indicating that there had been no arrests. Hours later, there is an RCMP press release indicating that there were arrests (using the Copyright Act), though the release is hosted at a private website and is currently not on the RCMP’s own site.
Interesting and interesting’r
On Northworthy, Lawrence goes on >>>
UPDATE 6: 8/3/2008 8:11 pm
The Globe and Mail has published an online correction to its print story, at some time today. I won’t cancel them out but I will tell their publisher what I think. He responds to crap like this.
They post at the moment:
CORRECTION
Four people arrested March 5 by Winnipeg RCMP in connection with an alleged piracy scheme involving DVDs, compact discs and digital downloads have been released without charge. The RCMP says one of the four, freed on an undertaking to reappear May 26, may face “numerous charges” under the Copyright Act for offences that carry a penalty of up to $1-million in fines and five years imprisonment, while the other three remain under investigation. Incorrect information appeared in a story yesterday.
UPDATE 7: 9/3/2008 12:23 am
Minister of Public Safety Stockwell Day releases press release 7/3/2008 at 20:16 ET, to offer his congratulations to the police officers on “arrests and seizures” like this.
He also links “piracy” with “organized crime.”
Minister Day Comments on the Largest Ever Seizure of Alleged Counterfeit CDs and DVDs in Canada
Read it if you care. Will it get pulled and be corrected? Interesting and interesting’r.
Sidenote:
The use of “Alleged” in the title of the Minister’s press release, presents a hint here to the difficulty faced with a seizure of this size, with likely significant amounts of goods seized that were likely too circumstantial before analysis to lay the charges to come, if they do. The documentary requirements here I imagine are significant ($$$,$$$), throwing the wrench in the planned public relations campaign. There are likely the DJ Mixes involved too which are going to be a huge PITA, both for the analysts, alleged property owners, and the lawyers involved (read this very interesting post by Jason K on the DJ /club mixes in general). Add in the Adult industry porn, and the classification of it, by owner, and its pedigree, without the aid of a “CRIA” like organization (maybe) to help, and well you have some delay in the news here to the charges, if any result.
My sense of this is that we are not dealing with “replica’s” hence the charges not being laid. What the police were told and what they found are possibly a rather serious issue at the moment. I have to look for the news story to find out …
UPDATE 8:
The CBC has some interesting video with only 3 or 4 inaccuracies in it. I love the way the host puts a certain visual opprobrium into it. From the scene, that CTV did not get access to, the CBC video feed shows none of the named artists in the audio commentary, that come from the CRIA press release, so far … one more video to watch …
The retracted press release BTW is hosted now by a proxy domain service that put it up at www.audiomaxxx.net with no traceable elements. Unless the CRIA the owner of the original content, puts up a fuss, with the proxy registrar, that is where it will be forever.

UPDATE 9:
This one is the best account of it right from the RCMP themselves in a TV interview with some of the video feed of the “international” CBC version at Update 8. The host is referring to a list that only includes the CRIA news release artists. No video evidence of any of those artists named. The “hard core pornography” the CRIA had mentioned, is not mentioned in this interview.

UPDATE 10: 9/03/2008
There is a very interesting comment here on what is a missing element to this whole sorry tale:
Its from here: http://www.dancehall.mobi/2008/03/07/audiomaxxx-shut-down/
“This is NOT a good thing for reggae as a whole.
Yes he was selling material and not paying anyone … but he was organised and up to date and was beginning to stock a great collection of classics for a NEW artist AUDIOMAXXX was agreat tool to get known wihtout spending too much money or time…
anyone who is REJOICING over this, doesn’t know how the crooked reggae industry operates…
too many unorganised and half assed labels have been the main reason why reggae is not the biggest ting in the world’ artists like BUSY SIGNAL have benfited from Audiomaxxx…”
- Gappy Crucial, March 9, 2008
Will the RCMP sue the (C)RIAA for sending them on a wild-good chase?
Don’t hold your breath.
Will King Raj sue the (C)RIAA for defamation?
Now that could be interesting.

leave this guy alone he promtes reggae music even tho he makes money off it so what stop been jeloust he aint selling nothin retail levae him let him carry on pushing reggae music
March 9th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Meh, I always thought that reggae wasn’t the “most popular ting in the world” because it is, behind the facade, religious music. I guess the white devil lives up to his name in this case.
March 9th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
The sky is falling, the sky is falling.
Why do you feel the need to sensationalize and exaggerate every copyright related issue that hits the news? Audiomaxxx was generating a profit from the sale of music they had no right to sell. People complain about major record labels paying pithy royalties to their artists when these guys weren’t paying royalties at all. They were profiteering from the works of others and everyone knew it.
Your inference that use of the word “allegedly” holds some hidden insight into the strength of their evidence is the dumbest thing I’ve heard all year. It is standard practice in all media reports to presume innocence until guilt is proven and you will find this word used in any public document where an accusation is yet to be proven in the courts.
March 10th, 2008 at 5:58 am
You mean Hyperbole++ that when the CRIA “allegedly” had proof of their claims we have to take their word for it ?
How very trusting of you to be so lax with the wastage of police time and public finances in what turns out to be a publicity charade.
March 10th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
If i was in the owner shoe i would ultimately sue followed via a public apology which would cause even further embarasement to the body
March 11th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
can any one tell me where can i get new riddim.? its a shame he was not leagl
March 12th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
audiomaxxx was the only way i could keep updated with the newest reggae. as a dj this does not only hurt me mentally without having good music, but it is putting an effect on my business by not staying up to date with the exclusive hits. anyone can download music thats relativley old for free. but to pay money for the newest reggae to be illegal makes no sence to me. also i have bought three recent cds on file that i can no longer get to because of this stunt by the criaa. is the criaa gonna pay my money back? i feel like there is nothing wrong with audiomaxxxs business except that its shut down for the moment. the friends and family who come watch me work have noticed that its not as much fun for me because im not up to date with my kind of music. i would buy several cds at a time. chose the songs that i loved best, and would purchase them on vinyle. because of this shut down, its effecting my record stores business as well. just something to think about. how many people you are truly effecting and making lose money. once again there was nothing wrong with their system. LET THE REGGAE LIVE AS WELL AS AUDIOMAXXX. ONE LOVE
March 14th, 2008 at 12:54 am
man, this really sucks. now, where can i find all these hard to find riddims?
March 14th, 2008 at 9:01 am
BOOOOOOO!!!!!! Now what am I gonna do? Haf to find a new way to get those sweet riddims. This is a sad sad day.
March 14th, 2008 at 10:41 am
GIVE AUDIOMAXX BACK ITS WEBSITE; HE WAS HELPING, NOT HURTING. PUBLICIZING & PROMOTING; NOT PIRATING.
ONE LOVE…
March 14th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Ripping off artists?? Victory for reggae??? Artists ripping us off for not making their music available. Dem ripping us off for not making riddims available. Greensleeves still selling Eek a Mouse. Don’t know where King Raj got the music, but he found it and is a hero to every reggae selecta, reggae music lover, and everyone OUTSIDE of Jamaica. Didn’t care for the porn, but King Raj has the biggest reggae library in the world – now what is going to happen to it?? Victory my ass.

March 14th, 2008 at 11:55 am
you know i love reggae, but it is THE HARDEST music to find. i had no poroblem payin King Raj for finding it. if I haffi search for it all over again, i think i may be through with this mess. you audiomaxx boycotters, hang out in your small groups, smoke you weed and praise Jah. You mek me sick. screw you bumboclaat exclusive club members only.
March 14th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I think the one thing that has been highlighted, is how poorly reggae music is promoted.
Personally, within reason the cost of the music is immaterial, getting to hear and purchase the latest riddims from a well organized trusted site I thought would be advantageous to all those involved in producing the music.
It seems to me that the only thing missing here is the passing on of remuneration. Perhaps the reggae industry should be talking to audiomaxxx and turning it into a napster model?
Regards D
March 14th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
Can somebody tell me if customers of Audiomaxx are being investigated
March 14th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
king raj had contact with a jamcan record distibuter & because he was byeing so mutch he cut a deal with them, thats why he could sell the cd so chep. also i recon he was not paying the goverment any money v.a.t plus he was not licened, its a shame but nothing last for ever .if he had met all these requirements the pricses of the cd would be alot more exspencive,so we have to count our luck stars it lasted for 5 years so you can say dat the heat came from the canadian athorites,if you whant new muzik you need two get intouch with record distributer of reggae music and cut a very big deal with them.

March 15th, 2008 at 9:09 am
I caan believe mi eyes! The funny ting is that King Raj was promoting the music to the world. It’s the same as if you go buy some cd’s from a man who has a shop or a flea market. Those guys are making copies and selling it too. And I don’t know what people are talkin about bootleggin. The artists aren’t makin money off these mix tapes and burnt cd’s. King Raj might be profiting but who really cares. He has provided a service for all of us who enjoy the music. What about the concept of free publicity. If these artists are more concerned with the money they get from the sale of their albums, they surely will be broke. Most of there artists make money from cuttin dubs and doin shows. Nuff said!
March 15th, 2008 at 9:55 am
DEM BETTA LEAVE KING RAJ MUSIC ALONE DEM WANT A RELVOLUTION IF DE GHOTTO youths DON”T have music we get vex and turn to violence. YOU KNOW HOW MUCH MUSIC HAS AND INPACT ON CRIME. DJ”S ARE working and people are parting no fun we turn to de gun hmm do dat make since

Go to dancehallreggae.com for your shared mixtapes. They are put up so reggae fans can share their rare favorite tracks with other like minded people for FREE, unlike the vampiress Queen Raj who knowingly sells for profit what he, we and everone knows is NOT his. Stop raping the musicians!

Audiomaxxx and RAJ “king” was the best thing that ever happend to reggae, 90percent of the arrtist would not have any air play or be known if it was’nt for a person as big as RAJ and many small boot leggers – the police should be boycotted and put audiomaxxx back online – if raj gave me the oppirtunite to be connected to his inside connections or ask me to do the distrabution for him i would, audiomaxxx was always reliable and quick, police are never on time or reliable – the DJ’s and music industry is gonna hurt bad without audiomaxxx huge library of tunes. –FREE RAJ OF ALL CHARGES—PUT AUDIOMAXXX BACK ONLINE—POLICE TRY TO CATCH REAL PEOPLE THAT DO HARM NOT THE PUBLIC HELP!!!! – 85percent of the music and mixx’s that audiomaxxx put out was not released and was never gonna be so the artist should be happy they were heard by the people some hows – all you one hit wonder artists audiomaxxx put you on the map, for all you artist that was forgotten audiomaxxx kept you heard — vybez kartel you made a song about RAJ, vybez your an idiot ting 80percent of your wak songs were heard because or audiomaxxx so shut the f–kup, come to canada or NY and talk shit stop hiding in jamaica you 50pound pussyhole!!! March 15th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
This is a sad day in reagge music. The big record companies should take note of what Audiomaxxx was really doing. King Raj was providing the best service for reggae music. There is no where else you can find a vast number of riddims, remixes, and variety of reggae music, new and old releases. The record companies should work with audiomaxxx and everyone including the artist will benefit. Give the people what they want. Real music we all can afford!!
March 15th, 2008 at 1:09 pm
BOYCOTT — PUT AUDIOMAXX BACK ON LINE FREE RAJ OF ALL CHARGES>> POLICE SHOULD HAVE BETER THINGS TO DO. AND THE ARTISTS SHOULD THINK WERE THEY WOULD BE WITHOUT TH DJ’s AND BOOTLEGGERS == THEY WOULD BE NOOOOOOOO WHERE!!!
March 15th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
audiomaxxx should come back some how. there is too much music that the world need to hear that was onle coming from King Raj and Audiomaxxx. Dj’s will feel the pain world wide. If the artist and record companies are wise they would see the potential profit they would have if they would link up with Audiomaxxx.
March 15th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Robbing Raj is a straight up THIEF pure & simple…all you fools defending him never had to pay for a second of studio time, nor hire musicians, nor an engineer for mix & mastering, nor cd burning, nor cover art, etc etc. All you wanna do is rip off the artists and producers who put their time, energy & lifeblood into their music, right along with King (of the robbers) Raj. Shame on you selfish @$$holes.
March 15th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

All of you people that are chatting nonsense about bring audiomaxx back let me tell you what u don’t know….when Don corleon went to greensleeves to license the drop leaf the agreed…but a month before they could release it audiomaxx had already got it(not from don corleon)….so who?…..corrupt disc jockeys just to make a quick buck so they messed everything upp for the Jamaican producer who supplies them with exclusive music….audiomaxx is not a licensed distributor or they don’t sell original discs and none of the money from CD sales goes back to the people who sweat to make the records…..They deserve it…..ask yourself it it was you making all this music and paying artists all this money for someone to pirate and makes thousands if not millions off of it without your consent…..who feels it knows so don’t be posting rubbish message because you guys just want to hear music and if you love it you respect the fact that these guys have to feed their family doing this……Use your heads that’s why a lot of us are still working for people………Wise and know yuhself
March 16th, 2008 at 10:07 am

Audiomaxxx was selling y’all music that he was downloading for free!!! He was getting rich off you people when you could just go and download it yourselves. He would steal people’s CDs and change the cover then sell it. He would go to some very simple websites that hundreds of people use and then he would sell it to those who dont know what they are doing. He was a thief plain and simple, thats why he got shut down
March 16th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

If you know anything about music and the business industry you could clearly understand that the reggae market is not the same as hip hop rnb and the rest of the genres. Reggae is a promotional market, there are a hand full of reggae artist that even touch money off record sales. Their purpose is to create the music and get it to the consumer as much as possible. Audiomaxxx.com, was one of the best ways for that and you can even ask reggae artist themselves. The reggae culture has been ignored over the years substantially, but know you see someone creating a service which people attend to there is a problem. There is seriously a problem………………………
Bless

March 17th, 2008 at 7:01 pm
I don’t see how you can be a lover of reggae music and not support the artists & producers. Audiomaxxx & Raj were screwing the singers & players of instruments…show me where he/they turned over a penny of their profits and maybe I’ll change my tune…otherwise, it’s robbery of the creators of reggae by people who claim to love the music, but are willing and active accomplices to the thievery that Raj is going on with.
March 17th, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Audiomaxxx did a great service to the people, They manage to promote, market, and distribute reggae music… Something the artist or record companies could not do. in my opinion record companies should be paying audiomaxx. Yes. I know they were bootleggin…but Still I think it all even out in the end.
March 17th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

I never knew it was a pirate sight. Always wondered how he got all the albums you can’t find anywhere. I would brag bout my music. Figured he had some deal a gwaan. His sight was so organized and professional. Hell, the artists had shoutouts for audiomaxxx at the end of downloads. Hope he can get his shit legal and drop the porn. I thought I was supporing the artists. This has really screwed up my life.

Well, Ha! Good For Audiomaxxx! Bootlegs like what he did was no good! you ever seen the CDs? and the Track Listing! You could NEVER read them thats how BAD it was! Yeah it was good to know what New Riddims were out, I used to come here years ago b4 he redid his site and it took for ever to load, but I used to come here see what the new riddims where listen to sample and if it was good then I would go to the store or flea markets and buy it! other then that I never stayed on the site for long… but when I saw he was Bootleging CDs I knew DJs made which fine cant help it, its bad but in a way good because the DJs still got there CD more known… but at the same time… when you take your time to make a CD and also design a CD cover and you see it on Audiomaxxx.com and you cant read it and some times I heard people get there CDs from audiomaxxx and it dont play good or it skips… so really! and why buy a BOOTLEG CD when you can get a REAL COPY from the DJs for the same god damn price! answer that AUDIOMAXXX aka KING RAJ! well anyhow yeah audiomaxxx is gone but its only a while until he comes back with the samething… DIGI-MEDIA In Toronto, better keep your self safe… You got all of Audiomaxxx Stuff…
March 18th, 2008 at 6:27 am

March 18th, 2008 at 11:32 am
This is a fucking disappointment! Reggae music as a whole will take the fall for this one, because this was the only way people in various cities and countries had access to new artist and dj’s Taking this site away will only put reggae at ground zero, leaving reggae music to stay popular in such cities like new york and miami.Where in the fuck are you supposed to go to find good reggae music, it was because of this site that people went out and purchased a sean paul, beenie man, or even kardinaal.Bwoy dem really fuck up this time because this nah put more money inna di artist dem bloodclaat pocket. This only will mek way for more likkle unorganized raasclaat site dem which barely have anyting.zeen

March 18th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
yo u si right about now thers a thing call modern day commercialism weh di system set up to fight die hearted fan of reggea music. Weh mi woulda like fi know is who dem people weh call dem selves the liceners of fi wi music, who are they to be selling the rights of jamaican music, why a yahd man cant sell wi music as soon as one a wi try and di big fat exects of di recording companies nah get fi dem share a di profits dem shett wi dong. In di long run its all about profits and because di kings of commercialize profits not getting fi dem share dem resort to teeking all a it. At lease di mi duups dida bring fi music to wi ah nah charge wi a harm and leg fi it, so weh dem mean fi tell mi seh so when wi gah dance di selects dem hafi go sign license agreement wid di recording companies dem an den wi haffi go sign fi listen di music ina mass form of entertainment. A kill dem a try kill off di music like how dem exploite Bredda Bob Marley and tekk him song dem give the beetles, rolling stones and a bunch a ada tiefing fassy dem. Anyway mi people every time dem do dis dem say its always in di best interest of di artist dem, Weh mi wah fi know s how come di exects of di rocording company dem always mek mo money dan di artist dem by selling someone else’s intelectual property. Dis is fi di king fish fassy dem mek mi put it ina english, leave reggea music along it is our music. Reggea music depicts life hardship and struggles that was pass on us by the western empiors and this is a way we get to have a good time within your social class prisons. lets put it in perspective if you went to Jamaica because your craving some good jamaican jerk would it feel right being give that jerk you have been craving for so long by a white man or would it feel real and authentic getting it from a jamaican. Besides I can find a very long list of illegal sites that give free downloads of, music, vedios, and movies thats currently in theatres right now, are why are you picking on jamaican music why AUDIOMAXXX. WE WILL NOT TAKE YOUR WATERED DOWN REGGEA MUSIC, YOU CAN SELL THAT TO YOUR KIND WE KNOW OUR MUSIC AND WE WILL FIND MEANS OF GETTING IT WITHOUT CORPORATE america and canada getting thier share. KING FISH SUCK U MADDA FOREVER, JUSS LIKE SILASIE WI DEH YA SAME WAY. BLESS

Let mi raise my humble voice fi a minute:
Sure ting, Reggae music IS bomboclaat unorganized – mi nuh blame di weed fi dat – so Raj did a good job as far as giving di overview on di latest tunes. He knows how fi do di promotion and he knows how fi organize id.
On di other hand, di producin’ level of reggaemusic couldn’t be lower. Shitty mix-downs, shitty mastering – no money deh fi mek id sound better. But where a di money go? u know di answer to dat yourself!
so it’s up to di massive to decide which way reggae goes, we haf 2 possibilities:
1. we can download id fi free, rip id, thieve and steal id
di advantages of dis method are:
- more sound fi poor people
- beeing up to date and hafing di latest releases
- easier fi newcomers (artists, soundsystems) fi get known
- easy overview
di disadvantages are:
- standards fi reggae productions decrease month by month, due to the decreasing incomes of artists and producers
- if u see id over a long time period, less musicians can live from reggae – so dem affi get a second job fi survive and in di end dem leave di scene or haf a much lower output, cause dem cyan’t spend all theire time on doin’ music anymore.
- dis would be followed by less total new reggae releases
- reggae would become a mediocre sound genre
OR
2. we can buy id, trade mixes and ORGANIZE id fi mek everyone haf what they need.
Give people di sound dat dem want fi di price dat dem can pay!
Give artists and producers di money dat dem need fi survive and fi keep dem tings going and fi increase di quality of reggae again!
Hard way fi walk, but tings and time will tell…

Let’s keep it real, Raj, has his negative and positive points but he did a lot for the business. Simply fine and let him continue his business. Legally. The porn is part of the problem, but he was up to date, he helped grow the business. Remember Reggae music is rebel Music…… Dem really need to run down the thieving record companies.

This is bad for my music life. My love for music has been enhanced since meeting this site because i am always ahead of the radio stations and d dj’s in SVG because audiomaxxx supplies me with all new riddims.
What the FUCK I SUPPOSE to do now? Please tell me?
Oh and Please give us back our website or else!!!!!
March 19th, 2008 at 9:43 pm
what am gonna do according bugle i still fuckin vex about that shit i goin be a lil out of date cuz all the new riddim on audiomaxxx and babylon jus stop the show, what the fuck man bring back the site and nah waste time to the world have to move round and with music it cant especially dancehall and reggae
March 20th, 2008 at 11:17 am
This is insane! Where the hell are we gonna go to get exclusives? There are plenty of selectas out there who are vex, but I am truly PISSED with this one. I haven’t been to the site now for a couple of weeks, and today I come, ready to hear some of the latest riddims, so that I can make a mix-cd that I’ve been promising my girl, and THIS IS WHAT I GET!!!!??? F*&CKING RIDICULOUS IF YOU ASK ME. Why they wanna keep US down, when there are so many real criminals out there in the corporate world who are doing much more crazier sh*t. We have to find a way to overcome this. So is audiomaxxx REALLY gone for good??? I’M IN DENIAL RIGHT NOW!

Yo king Raj is one of the biggest promoters of reggae/dancehall music in the world period.. By selling mixes made by others dj both promotes the djs themselves but also introduces alot of people to whats new and exciting in the dancehall world. I’ve pesonally went out and bought artist cds in ligit stores after listening to them on a mixtape on audiomaxxx or even went to see a show. There are millions of people in the world killing people and these people are looking for promoters of music, how about finding fucking bin laden? Fucking assholes…..

this is bull-isht audiomaxxx was good for all selectas worldwide – give them back thier website please
March 30th, 2008 at 11:54 am
if the record companies can update and provide the services for their consumers like raj did, he couldn’t even be in business. don’t blame audiomaxxx for the record company’s inability to keep up with the times. i would like to see a legitimate version of the same thing raj was providing: the latest songs at the most reasonable rate and everyone getting their fair share. come one music business this is the future….
March 31st, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Unnuh shet unnuh claat bout audiomaxx was good for selectors. Selectors supposed to support the artistes just like everyone else. If the artiste want to give you a free chune den yuh get it from him or her. Unnuh too blirtneet TEEF. Furthermore, you bedroom and basement bathroom DJs need to stop calling yourselves selectors. A unnuh a mash up di business.
March 31st, 2008 at 8:52 pm
Funny how all deez “real selectas” coming ova to audiomaxxx. Why yuh here? Yuh bloodclaat know if you get a early riddim you all on it. Get it only from di artist, nigga pleeze.
April 1st, 2008 at 4:28 am
stop cry you dj’s. yes he provided a service of the back of hard working artists and producers / so he should of legal it up with the real people and stop stealling the music and people in charge . come on what do you think the authoritys are stuppid , it was only a matter of time before they caught up withy him. tipical of an indian bwoy who tief from people who they regard as stupid, now the boot on the other foot every one ah cry. these indian know what dem ah do long time before they set up this site , they get too big for there boots and start get greedy just like every indian i know all over they world ,just ah tek tek tek with no respek for the people in charge. so good luck to the authoritys and ah victory for the jamaican who produce this great music. come on jamaicans this is all we have left and we cant even stop the little indian tief from stealing of us all its so sadd . how much of you steal indian music . i thaught so not one of you think before you post stupid commentson the web this is serious? they should make raj pay back all the money he stole from people and give it to jamaican artists who been struggling for so long in the buisness and dont have the access. blessed love
April 1st, 2008 at 6:32 am
as an artist, i see this thing with audiomaxxx two ways:
1. yes he is selling this cds illegal and making money on it which is copyright infringement
2.but he is also promoting the artists and producers cause nuff ppl getting to know them more through audiomaxxx.
The reality of it is sometimes we have to use these means and ways to make it in life. Do you know how many more people know more about reggae and dancehall artist just through this website? Djs and fans used it to keep updated. Some of these artists and producers im sure see it in a way of promotion for them. Although they are not reaping direct rewards from audiomaxx, they are getting it in other ways. They will get requested for radio plays, stage shows and other musical events. I think more publicity is much much much better for an artist/producer. What do you think? . More people knows about them and their work. To conclude, its not all bad what they were doing. It had a good side to it. It sounds harsh but thats the reality of it, i believe.

Thats So stupid no body is there to help the reggae music. Because audiomaxx helpin the cause by making so many people enjoye the song of freedom and these faulk try to block it, to block all the black music. thats so stupid , I got one thing to say “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; Only love can do that”
April 1st, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Here is my take on Raj. An Indian who capitalized on a Jamaincan market. He got the music, organized it, and made it easily available to customers. He has made some harsh comments on Jamaicans not being able to manage their music, or themselves. When I am in JA I see the Indians own all the tourist stores in busy areas, the Jamaicans are on the street hustling weed, woman and coke. In American inner cities it is the Indians running the stores and the blacks hustling weed, crack and hoes.
As far as them not being able to manage themselves, Movado just got bailed outta jail for poppin off his gun, Aidonia is in jail for being a trigger man, Jah Cure got released after raping, Deva Bratt is in jail for rapeing a minor, Bounty Killer is in and out after mashing up his baby mama, Beenie Man ain’t payn any taxes, Sizzla got a gun collection he had to answer for, Bascom X fighting for freedom. I know there is more I am missing. Not to responsible.
Raj is a capitalist taking advantage of a market. He did it the wrong way and got greedy and caught. I would love to see him get it right for all reggae music lovers and for Jamaica. I miss my new chunes.
April 1st, 2008 at 2:50 pm
ALL OF YOU OUT THERE KNOW GOOD AND WELL WHAT AUDIOMAXX IS ABOUT WHEN YOU ALL STARTED,DONT ACT LIKE YOU ALL DID NOT KNOW WHY AUDIOMAXX WERE IN YOUR FAVORITES,I’M A DJ AND THEY ARE THE ONLY SOURCE FOR ME FOR NEW RIDDIMS,WE MAKE YOU ARTISTS, THE STREET DJ, THE BOOTLEGGER ,AND THE BOOTLEG BUYERS, THE RECORD COMPANIES ARE NOT OWNED BY POOR PEOPLE,IT’S OWNED BY MANY DISHONEST PEOPLE AND WHITE PEOPLE WHO DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR HOOD IF THEY DID YOU PROBALY BE WORKING FOR THEM IN THE HOOD OR YOU? A BOOTLEGGER CAN’T GET MUSIC WITHOUT AINSIDE CONNECT SO IF YOU THINK THE POOR RAPPER IS SUFFERING DUE TO BOOTLEG CD’S,THEY GONNA REALLY SUFFER WHEN WE CAN’T AFFORD HIS SHOWS,CANT HEAR HIM ON A MIX TAPE, TO HEAR IF HE REALLY GOT SKILLS,SO IF WE THE PUBLIC DO LIKE YOUR CORNY MUSIC WE’LL GO TO THE NEAREST CORPERATION MUSIC STORE,AND FOCUS ON THE DAYS WHEN WE PAID SIX DOLLARS INSTEAD OF WALMARTS 11.99 TO 13.99 PRICES AND GET GARBAGE CAUSE WE DID NOT HEAR IT EARLY,WHO CARES THERE IS STILL LIMEWIRE LOL
April 1st, 2008 at 7:18 pm

Here is my take on Raj. An Indian who capitalized on a Jamaincan market. blah blah blah ….
SO WHAT ….. ARE YOU A RACIST. GO LISTEN TO SOME OTHER MUSIC FOOL!!!
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 am
All good things must come to an end. In JA some artist said, ‘because of audiomaxxx they cayh mek money.’ Well I must say this is true…think about it, all ah we check audiomaxxx because it’s easy access, cheap, and no hassle but really who sufferring here? – the artist them of course. When yuh give the money to Raj, the artist on the cd belting out tune after tune not seeing any of that money, and we all know how hard it is for black Carribean artist to make it big ah foreign.
And we talking about supporting reggae music, well yuh not supporting if Raj taking the money for himself. JA artist have been trying to promote reggae music long before some ah we know we self and if there’s no support in terms of legit money from fans then reggae, dancehall and soca will remain underground.
I miss the site too..doh get meh wrong but Raj lie to all ah we an I doh like ppl to lie to me..Remember the site said “All rights reserved” and he knew very well nothing nah go so…now that’s ah real shame. If some of you can put yuh self in the shoes of an artist tryin to make it, you will understand. If there continue to be poeple like Raj out there, de artist them would never be able to spread there wings and make it big.
So ppl lets go and there and support reggae, dancehall and soca the legit way!!! give the artist them ah chance cause we need them musically. Bless!!
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:06 am
i think reggae is not big cause they don’t want it big. they want to keep it on the island. it has such a positive messeage (excluding dancehall) but i get the impression reggae listeners don’t want other people in their ‘click’. there is a lot of hatred in a lot of these posts. anger towards ‘babylon’, whites, indians ect. there isn’t a lot of love here. if you want to see how bootleggin is really done, go to jamaica!! everywhere i go they selling bootlegs!
April 3rd, 2008 at 10:09 am

April 3rd, 2008 at 4:27 pm
Good things in a way like most peeps a chatting i agree that raj should have involved the artist them direct no managers or lables just direct artist thing for their share even if he got $1 of each item he is eating ( every man got the right to eat ) no greed…..Then build the company like deathrow did dre style even link dre if he wanted which i think he would and all the other big brothers in the game and sisters and make audiomaxx a big thing all over the world bless… then take all the youth new music and sound systems on board so we can hear it…….i dont know raj future or plans maybe he might have had plans like so… we dont know only can guess! and hope next time that the person will do it properly for long time.easy

Oh man leave de man alone where am i going 2 get exculsive cds from now ….ahhh
April 6th, 2008 at 2:24 am
this is sum serious bs…ok so the government calls it piracy the artist themselves never minded it they would actually tell you they promoted king raj..this is how artist make their money. why politicians always think they doing the right thing even when they hurting a global community of reggae/soca listeners..really you must give king raj back his website, this isn’t piracy seriously isn’t. without this site its like I don’t know what’s going on in the reggae community anywhere. and I don’t think you could pirate sumfin that is a pirated movement..its like saying hiphop artist couldn’t make mix tapes.
April 6th, 2008 at 9:07 pm

As a Dj we depend on sites to get our music Audio maxx was the site to do so to get riddims early to play when we play out in which the music is promoting artists everytime we play it… the government needs to worry and spend their time on more important things such as, the guns on the street, rapists and murderers child molesters.. all these things going on and you are worry about someone selling music wow thats messed up get your priorities straight
April 8th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
The way i see it soon all us DJ will be in court cause when we mix the tunz and dub them and then sell our cd then what isthe diff? .. it is dum to take him down and all he did was be the middle man for us DJ and make us get ppl that would normaly not know of us to sample our stuff.. it is really starting to piss me off when the papper pusher have nothing better to do than go after the small guy. and i could care less how much money he made from his site. it seem that this whole idea of copy right is getting to a whole new level that i dont see the industry getting any benifit from apart from the big lables.. cause if we never DJ and spin them tunes thay would never get the ratings………… looks like some one needs to pick up the ball and get this thing going on a new site.. hell i do it if i had acsses to his links and archive…

It’s been about a month now. I feel so out of it. All I find on the net is frocking mixes with the damn horns & laser guns. Even going to Pirate Bay, and other torrent sites you still not findin the music Raj got. What a good place for up and coming artists to get their demo’s out and recognition. Leave out di blue movies and major artist labels and keep di riddims and exclusives coming. Even the Hot Remix albums were nice. Can’t find shit pon di net and I got some fucking bug in my computer going to so many damn strange sights.

Everyone needs to do some research and find out who owns the record labels in the Caribbean. Most of the owners aren’t Jamaicans. They are American and UK affiliated companies. You all know that these oppressive companies aren’t giving the artists even 1/4 of the money they earn off these cds. Furthermore, when you buy a mixed cd you are supporting the person who made the mix not the artists of the songs. So don’t argue about the artists not getting their money because if you buy a legit mix cd you still aren’t supporting the artists. The mix cds are free advertising for artists. DJs dont even make money off their cds, they’re used to get their names out there to get spots at clubs and events to run their music. THAT’S WHERE THEY GET THEIR MONEY FROM! Think logically! Everyone who wrote that King Raj was a thief needs to realize that unless you go to one of the biggest music companies to buy your music (which most companies don’t have half the new stuff you want) your a thief because the person you bought it from most likely has a burnt copy themself.

Im an artiste and selecta and represents dancehallgospel.com and it seems many folks use this site to keep up to date with the latest in the reggae genre. But the Truth remains audiomaxxx sells albums and make a 100% profit and bootleg versions. now it was nice that they were a site that had the latest music and some unknown djs would benfit from sending there materials to such a site for awarness. But the Djs who really can be making some money on their own like wise artiste aint getting one dime ! its simple do on to others as u like unto your self. and if you call your self a dj go buy the music the right away and support the artiste if u really care. Many think artiste get millions but when it comes down it just a few cents per songs and the reggae industry only so much get the millions.
I also think the biggest promblem is illegal mixtapes. Djs In this time has moved away from the real promotion of songs and began to more make compilations and call it mixtapes. We need to get back to the mixtapes days like dont split the tracks and talking over the music so folks can go get the real albums. Lets stop working for ourselves and work hand in hand in this industry. Now they might be a few things that may not be illegal such as live shows and live sound systems stuff this site sold however the question holds and we may neva know if they really got those albums from the promoters them selves.
Futher more what suprises me is when they added porn to the site. knowing that all ages visit this site. This topic can go on and on.
The Canadian police has done its job. I hope they come down to toronto cause there many shops around that sells bootleg from pickering flee market to Malevrn mall to westend flee market.
The bootleg arena does circulate the music even tho it is doing so it is illegal and goes against many artiste, and the rest of the industry had labour. a song aint cheap to record !

People we understand the reason things happen and in this case it was unfortunate that our source of up-to-date reggae music was shut down. But remember the reason this happen was base on the owners profiting from the works of others and providing no royalties to the rightholders. If you feel you should support companies that push reggae music, why don’t you visit FiWEH.com and support the work we are doing there. We provide music and also offer Artists, labels, producers, sound systems, poets and promoters royalties from any anything they sell on our. This was the route the owners of Audiomaxxx should have taken. Stop complaining and look towards FiWEH.com as your new source for Music, Videos and Upcoming Events.

I was short down in Decatur , GA USA myself. Its fuck up. White people want to continue controling the music industry as they have done but its coming down on them. Artists made more money from audiomaxxx than they did from major labels. THATS WHY THEY SHORT HIM DOWN. White people are now trying to make mixtapes …can you believe this……They want the piece of the pie….They short down the moms and pops to do what the moms and pops do best…..it can never work. We invent music and there are numerous ways to do this……….We will invent new ways. BIG UP TO AUDIOMAXXX.

To the what I will call’ the big time selectas,’ did you always get music straight from the artists? Didn’t you have to start somewhere? Stop crying down the guys that this thing and trying to get a start. Maybe you should help them out. Then most of you go around the place talking about “one love ” and “respect.”

Check out http://www.audiomaxxx.net … where someone has used a proxy domain service to post a CRIA press release that the CRIA took down. There was a problem in the plans they had to publicize the event that I would suspect in the what evidence they actually found.

This is part 1 of an overall outlook of what I think needs to change to make the music industry more profitable. This part will look at the digital paradigm as it exists through my eyes, and what I’ve witnessed while observing those in this industry. I’m going to touch up on some issues that are specific to my genre of this industry which Electronic Dance Music. It is my belief that a lot of advancements have been made in this genre that can be interconnected with the rest of this industry. This genre is on the leading edge of technology within how music is created and distributed. As pornography is the leading drive behind new technologies within the video market (HD, VCR’s etc), Electronic Dance Music (EDM) would be that leading technical drive within audio and music creation. Part 2 will focus more on the physical retail aspects of these industries, and how they’ve been impacted and present possible changes there as well. I will not be linking in this blog, or naming names. These are just my observations and recommendations to which I’m certain some of the available market data can be linked to.
Many of the lobby groups claim that with the number of legal sites for the purchase of music up, piracy remains still at a very high level. It’s very surprising to me that the business end of the music industry has yet to ask the question why that is, instead of blaming file sharing. This has gone on for a decade now, and must stop! In order for one to take a close look and see the actual problems, we must look at this logically, and like any logical way of thinking, break down the data. So lets zoom in:
1) Labels blame file sharing and the consumers for the demise of the music industry. Why? Because people are downloading off of P2P networks .
2) Why are people downloading off of P2P networks? A lot of the reasoning behind this the lobby groups have spilled out is because of free music.
3) Is free music the sole reason behind P2P? Partly yes, but not entirely. Those that are not in this industry are lead to believe that downloading free music off of P2P is a bad thing, when in fact this industry is built around free promotions, and free music and a lot of industry types use P2P networks to their advantage, and are doing business within the P2P aspects, through promotions, and singing of tracks and artists found on P2P networks.
4) So why then are people not buying music? Well in a lot of cases they are. We’re seeing a lot of conflicting data, and that’s because the market is in a flux right now with a newly emerging industry pushing its way through. Retail sales are down, and digital sales are rising. However digital sales could be rising at a rate of 200% per year if not more right now in my view. Until this new industry pushes through we can’t tell or compare ups and downs, there’s nothing to compare it to, and very little understanding of how it works, which is why major labels and lobbyists are fighting for the old system back that they understand which will NOT happen. Any attempts at trying to get that industry back will result in further losses. It no longer exists. Laws must not be put into place that compensate, or inhibit the new emergence from taking place. The emergence can’t be stopped. Those not doing business in this new emergence have been quite clear on the loss of profits and loss of jobs etc, and will continue down a path of destruction and bring talent down with them, while those that have adapted to it will most definitely profit in this new environment.
5) Labels are claiming that file sharing is the cause for the downfall in profits. Is this true? File Sharing is only to blame for forcing this industry to a new platform. There is no evidence what so ever to prove file sharing is responsible for the major decline in profits. The evidence that’s been shown to the public is completely misleading. When one looks at this subjectively, the evidence of lost profits are at the fault of the industry as a whole for not following the market into the digital realm. It really makes me mad to see governments all over the world cave to the pressures of lobbyist without actually understanding what’s happened and why. I will be careful in our next election to make sure I elect someone with some form of intelligence.
Think about this. We are now a connected society, and the consumer is getting very lazy. For the tech savvy, most of us get our news from feeds or blogs we subscribe to, focusing on key words, phrases. Well P2P works in a very similar manner. I upload my podcasts (as a lot of industry DJ’s and labels do now or have someone do it for them) to the P2P channels, which are then picked up on RSS feeds, and spread out all over the world to different sites, blogs etc.
Those downloading off of P2P channels can subscribe to my podcast using the rss feeds most torrent sites use. So if they are looking for my show they can type in the name of that show, or the *Release Group I use to release the show on P2P, which then the torrent client will pick up, and automatically download for them. Very similar to the Itunes with Podcasts, but on a much more massive scale. It may also surprise you that those downloading off of P2P channels seem to be 90% from the good old USA. We Canadians are at the top of the list for piracy? Have these guys even opened up a torrent program at all, and seen the number of USA IP addresses attached to downloader’s Vs. Canadian. 10+US /1 CDN.
A lot of the age group that buys music are between 13 – 25, meaning that the majority of this age group currently does not have a lot buying power for the legal distribution of music globally online. Gift cards are sold at some physical retailers, but they are not servicing the need of that age group, that wants to do business completely online, and on demand. A lot of them don’t own credit cards, and Itunes (the biggest legal distributor) the last time I checked only had PayPal available for US Residents only. Furthermore there has been some problems with Pay Pal, and the way they sell solutions to online merchants.
PayPal has a system in place that is supposed to protect people from “fraud” and is actively pushing those with PayPal merchant accounts to insist on making sure a customer’s address is verified with PayPal to protect these companies, even if an address is not required for delivery of services. PayPal requires customers to use a credit card in the account holders name to make that address verification possible with those using this service outside the US. I personally went through this when I purchased the World of Warcraft game to which I did not want to run to the mall 40 mins away from me every month to pick up a game card. I don’t and won’t use my credit card for Gaming (my credit card is for emergency only and I don’t provide to anyone online), and the bill by phone option Blizzard Entertainment has was only available to US residents (not that I would do that in the first place). That only left Pay Pal, who was requiring my credit card info for address verification. So now I’m stuck with a purchase of a game I can’t play, or be inconvenienced once every so often to go out and purchase some damn gift card, that takes me 40min completely out of my way. No thanks, I’ll just stick with the games I can play that I purchased and don’t use an online subscription to play with other gamers online.
What’s needed is a global debit card for electronic purchases that’s open up to all countries and all banks, and anyone that’s of legal age to withdrawal money from their own bank account. This is not only coming from someone within the music industry, but an analyst involved and trained in e-business solutions and support. This has plagued a lot of the e-business community for a very long time, to come up with solutions that will sell to everyone from everywhere, which is what’s needed within these entertainment industries in order to profit from the full extent of the digital environment.
The other major problem within this industry comes with pre-released music. Giving away free promo’s to DJ’s, radio stations, and industry types, is based on an old model, that a lot of us DJ’s really like. Basically free music sent out by labels and artists to the Dj’s in hopes that the DJ will play it and it will help with the sale of the product. Let alone it is my belief that P2P may work in the same way, and some do use P2P for legitimate purposes around those beliefs. In my experiences I’ve tracked down on behalf of a few music labels, songs that were floating around P2P and file sharing networks trying to find out how they got there, that somewhere down the line the content creator gave the track to a few friends, or previously handed out the tracks on P2P networks to see what type of response it would create before going to a label, and in the process if people like the track and it’s not available for legal download, it’s going to move through the P2P networks. And then these labels and content creators turn around and blame file sharing networks for the problem. Hello? That’s not the problem. In this new industry if you give these tracks out to anyone but labels for contract consideration, then you need to suck up the losses and move on. Pre-releases, and unreleased promo’s are causing huge issues for labels, artists. Anything that is not available through legal channels, should not be given to anyone. If you do then you need to expect that track to make it on the P2P networks. When I go to the casino, I expect to lose the money I go in with. I don’t expect to win.
Another problem with pre-released tracks is that DJ’s play them on their shows or podcasts. A lot of DJ’s use P2P, and a lot of them play bootlegged or *white labelled tracks that can’t be found in stores etc, and mostly on P2P channels, labels that have podcasts are included in this group! This includes some of the top ranked DJ’s worldwide and their sponsored labels. Sometimes those bootlegged tracks get released or signed, but it’s too late to benefit from the full effect of the track when it’s released. DJ’s and labels that play unreleased tracks are not helping this industry, in fact they are contributing to lost profits, which is why you see for the most part ID-ID in track listings. Although some of the top players have yet to adopt this policy when playing tracks that are not available through legal distribution channels.
There have been many times where I’ve listened to other top ranked global DJ’s, and right after the show go and look for a lot of the tracks play listed on legal download stores to find out they aren’t available yet, as many of my own audience does as well. My second look for these tracks if I can’t find them legally as a consumer is within P2P networks. In some cases many of these tracks take many months even upwards of a year to be officially released through the labels. By then remixes and other versions of the track can be found on P2P free. This is why during my shows, I make sure 99.9% of my play listed tracks I’ve played over the past 3 years are released and my audience has a chance to purchase them right after the show. I even point a lot of them on where to get them legally. Those DJ’s that are track listing pre-releases are contributing to the decline of that track once it is released. Consumers want tracks as soon as they hear them. If they are not in the legal channels, they will look elsewhere.
Which brings me to my next point. Consumers now a days, want product on demand, with little effort involved in purchasing them. The overall consensus with consumers is they do want to pay for their music, but on their terms. Future business models in the new media industries must adapt to this by offering pooled services. Sell product in bulk, and theme, artist or genre specific. Dj’s often belong to label pools where the labels throw in all new releases for that month for a monthly fee. There are usually quite a few labels involved that throw tracks into a pool, that services the DJ’s. Same thing needs to happen here. The consumer has a need for pooled or packaged services. A lot of DJ’s in the industry now are relying on free artist pools then paid label pools. I’m often sent tracks directly from the content creators, discreetly. It is my belief that the rights holders (labels) have not and are not servicing even the industry pools successfully. Artists have also resorted to pooling free tracks to their fans as well out of desperation for free promo. This is a huge failure of representation within the label community, to not only meet the demand of the consumer, but even the industries they are a part of. Wake up people. Tougher laws are not the answer, this will continue regardless and labels will keep pushing the blame on the P2P communities rather than fixing this major problem, that’s costing a lot of profits.
Digital Cable TV is a prime example of the consumer need right now. You subscribe to a themed package and get that content bundled. So if you are a consumer looking for the latest in top 40 tracks, then there should be a service available that will provide that to you for a bundled monthly subscription fee (without DRM), and sent right your devices automatically without any effort on the consumers part. Extra content like artists podcast can be factored into this as well. This will not only give a major boost to new artists in the music scene these labels are promoting, but also meet the demands of the consumer.
P2P file sharing needs to be used more of an advertising and promo medium to generate interest in the artists, labels, products, or services. Free music is part of this, however it’s how one uses this free music to their advantage that can make a significant difference. Artists in my genre (Electronic Dance Music) are also DJ’s and have some up with an incredible solution to use P2P to their advantage by providing release groups, and torrent sites professionally mixed and produced podcasts. This all together supports our community and uses this medium to their advantage. However it is important to note that the full effects (negative or positive) of P2P and file sharing cannot really be measured accurately until the above needs of the consumers are met first. For those that constantly blame file sharing for their problems need to look closely as to where the blame really needs to lie at this point before we can move forward. Because over the past 10 years these needs have not been met, the negative effects of file sharing being the only culprit on these industries is an assumption, and not based on fact. There are not actual facts available, just a lot of industry numbers that suggest a shift in the markets to which these industries for whatever reason are refusing to service properly. I bet my reputation, that once these needs are met, file sharing will represent a very small issue, if an issue at all.
Rather than looking at and putting money into developing solid solutions, a lot of rights holders have spent vast amounts of money lobbying, and tromping on the fundamental rights of society on a claim that they cannot prove with any certainty, but does not have merit, nor is acceptable under the circumstances. I think it’s time to change towards a more constructive and positive approach to the issues at hand.

Jon…after speaking with Raj did you get the feeling he is looking to bring the site back if things end favorably for him or do you think he’s done. Obviously the closing of the site has left a major void for those who looked to Audiomaxxx for reggae tunes.. just wanna know if there is the possibility of the return of Audiomaxxx….

Wow!!! This is such a shock to many of us. Audiomaxxx/King Raj was, by far, the only way MANY MANY MANY OF US military members overseas, to include Germany, Iraq, Japan, and elsewhere received any Reggae/Calypso music. I’ve been ordering from him for years….he NEVER ONCE cheated me and always provided prompt service. This is truly is SEVERE BLOW TO THE REGGAE WORLD. Whoever opened up this can of poison could have only done so as a result of jealousy. What are we (U.S. military from the caribbean) to do now for the latest greatest sounds. King Raj provided a service that kept us in touch with our culture and heritage…I have been ordering from him for years upon years….back in the early 2000’s. LEAVE HIM ALONE AND LET HIM CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THAT GREAT SERVICE TO US REGGAE FANS AROUND THE WORLD.
KING RAJ….STAY STRONG AND NUFF RESPECT TO YOU FOR ALL DEM YEARS YOU TOOK CARE AH WE…DOH MATTAH WAH DEH SEH BOUT YOU BUT WE, DI CARIBBEAN PEOPLE DEM, APPRECIATE ALL YOU AH DO FI WE….JAH GUIDANCE
May 30th, 2008 at 3:04 am
If there’s anyone interested in an alternate site for reggae music…try reggaesound.com. It’s not anything close to audiomaxxx but guess it’ll have to do. I hope AUDIOMAXXX beats this DEMON. THEY always seem to keep us down….just like a Black-Heart Man.
June 6th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

June 16th, 2008 at 10:30 pm
i cant tell you how much audiomaxxx exploited the small record labels and production houses that are turning out the music that all you so called audiomaxxx “fans” want. How the hell are producers and small jamaican records labels going to eat if they dont get paid for what they producer. audiomaxxx punked out the small jamaican labels. king raj STOLE from producers trying to make it. STOLE!!! yes the site was a wonderful way to get new music but couldnt he have dont it legitimately? Wasnt there enough money for king raj to make a dollar and the producer to make a dollar too????????? I think you all should look at the dialogue king rah said in a interview blog about black people – he said if black people are not smart enough to make money selling there own music, then I am smart enough to steal it from them and keep the money. there will soon be a spot to download music legally. until them check rebelmix.com or zojak.com

so is audiomaxxx coming back to sell more records since he has not been charged? What is going on!
July 18th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
I feel that Audiomaxxx was a great outlet to get reggae music out & 99% of their products were reggae based to me most of the products they sold were mix tapes & riddims with without audiomaxxx being there to get producers & artist names out there no one would know them & alot of upcoming dj’s used audiomaxxx at least to find out whats riddims are hot right now then either buy it from them or go find it on their own.The only thing I didn’t like about audiomaxxx was that they would actually sell established reggae artist official albums bootleg even before the album would be relaese so I thought that was unfair because reggae already has a problem selling units as it is so when Audiomaxxx will take their music before it even comes out they give them no chance at all to sell sum real units so I beleive they can be sued for that & the porn cause the distributors of the porno are also not making any money cause audiomaxxx is selling their movies for 5 bucks when in a sex shop they go for 30$ a pop. So for me as an average person I love it but the business side of me see’s the disrespect. Everything else audiomaxxx helped reggae music world wide get notice & recognition cause without them some people in germany & dem places would know what is really hot right now & bussin g the place…BRING BACK AUDIOMAXXX WELL MISS U!!!!!!!!! AH FUCKERY DEM AH TRY GET U OUT BUT IN THE END U PAVED THE WAY & WILL GO DOWN IN THE REGGAE MUSIC INDUSTYR HISTORY BOOKS!!!
July 20th, 2008 at 4:50 pm
GOOD FOR YOU…STUPID LIKKLE PIRATE SOUNDS CRYING CAH DEM NUH KNOW ANY OTHER WAY TO GET CHUNE BESIDE AUDIOMAXXX…ARE YOU RETARDED??? YOU EVER HEARD OF BUYING REAL COPIES???? YOU PEOPLE ACT LIKE THEY HAVE NO REGGAE DISTRIBUTORS OR STORES ONLINE…DO SOME RESEARCH ASSHOLES!!! LEARN TO PAY A LIL MORE FOR YOUR CHUNE AND NOT RELY ON PURE DOWNLOAD AND PIRATE COPIES FROM AUDIOMAXXX….I BET 99% OF YOU WHO USED TO RELY ON AUDIOMAXXX USED TO ACT LIKE U A BIG SOUND AND TING…SORRY TO BREAK IT TO YALL BUT IF YOUR ONLY MEANS OF GETTING THE LATEST REGGAE MUSIC WAS THROUGH AUDIOMAXXX, THEN YOU ARE NOT A TRUE DJ / SELECTOR / SOUND…AND THE SAME GOES FOR THE FANS…INSTEAD OF DEFENDING QUEEN RAJ..YOU SHOULD SUPPORT THE ARTISTS, BECAUSE WITHOUT THEM..RAJ WOULDN’T EVEN HAVE MUSIC TO BOOTLEG…DON’T YOU REALIZE THAT IF OFFICIAL ALBUM SALES ARE DOWN BECAUSE OF AUDIOMAXXX, THEN DI ARTIST DEM WON’T HAVE DI SAME MOTIVATION TO MAKE GOOD MUSIC…WHY YOU THINK THE DANCEHALL SCENE WAS GETTING SLOPPIER OVER THE YEARS??? YOU ASSHOLES NEED TO STOP CRYING OVER AUDIOMAXXX, THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF REGGAE STORES ONLINE WITH THE LATEST STUFF…IF NOT, YOU COULD ALSO CONTACT REGGAE DISTRIBUTORS STRAIGHT FROM JAMAICA, MOST OF THEM HAVE ONLINE CATALOGS WHICH YOU CAN SUBSCRIBE TO…JUST DO YOUR DAMN RESEARCH AND LEARN ABOUT THE MUSIC, NOT JUST BUY BURNED CD’S BY THE DOZEN JUST TO BE “THE GUY WITH THE LATEST CD’S”..YOUR NOT FOOLING ANYONE..I’M SO SICK OF GOING TO STAGE SHOWS / PARTIES AND SEEING WANNABE DJ’S PLAYING DOWNLOADED MP3s STRAIGHT FROM A LAPTOP IN A PRE-MADE MIX…NO MIXING SKILLS OR ANYTHING…FUCK ALL YOU FAKE HURRY COME-UP SOUND BWOYS…SERIOUSLY..LIKE I SAID BEFORE AND I’LL SAY IT A MILLION TIMES AGAIN..LOOK AROUND PEOPLE..THIS WAS NO BIG LOSS FOR THE REGGAE WORLD..ON THE CONTRARY..NOW WE’LL SEE AN IMPROVEMENT IN THE QUALITY OF PRODUCTIONS….SO STOP CRYING CHEAP ASSES.
July 28th, 2008 at 4:26 am
All these people jumping on the bandwagon about how “Audiomaxxx” have been ripping off artists are talking rubbish. Record companies and producers have been doing it for years, thats why various recording artists have been taking the companies to court. How can companies justify overcharging the public for a cd when it cost small change to produce. In England it cost £18.99 for a cd. By time you buy 3 – 4 cd’s a week by the end of the month your broke. Audiomaxxx made it possible for people to hear about various artists and various sounds. If I hear of a new artists on Audiomaxxx I will cut some tune with him/her if the tune is good. As a soundman I need know what other sounds are playing in Germany,Belgium,Italy, which tunes are mashing up the place. Any site which promotes reggae music is a good thing. Raj is a business man and he was able to promote his business. Nothing stopping anybody from doing it. Look how many times street vendors sell bootleg music. Nobody complains to the police or record companies. Some people need to get their facts straight and come correct.
August 18th, 2008 at 12:53 pm
bring back audiomaxxx
August 21st, 2008 at 11:17 am
It is what it is. Audiomaxx made it possible for a lot of people to get music. If record companies are so worried about the music being pirated, why not lower the price of a CD. After a CD gets 2 years old they sell it for $5 anyway. Artist will tell you that they make more money being on tour anyway. Artist need to step up and demand more. Audiomaxx did more good than bad for artists.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:56 pm
Sum Of You Bloodclaat People Are Idiots… How else would new tings b promoted as much as audiomaxxx did it… If they wasnt an audiomaxx then all yall would have to wait mad long till people get the chune howwever they get it rather than being the one wit the exclusiveness assholes… Even if u go somewhere to buy a mixtape, you still going to get it for the same price or probably 2 dollars more or so an yall speakin bout itz not right and shit…
September 5th, 2008 at 2:27 am

September 24th, 2008 at 8:48 pm
I have read some of the posts and I have come to the conclusion that people who have no reason to support these guys feel obligated to do so. I know some of you miss getting your CD’s etc. but when I received the following email I knew that there was no way I could support or defend them if the allegations in the email were true. You should decide for yourselves. If I did anything like that to another community, I would expect the outrage which was to come. This email was sent when AudioMaxx was big!
—————————————————————————————————————————–
Subject: Lyyric DVD Magazine urgent: Audiomaxxx.com racist remarks why
do we support them
Dear Reggae community,
recently Lyric DVD had a conversation with the owner of Audiomaxxx.com,
I asked him why do you continue to bootleg the work of the reggae artist
and sell it for nothing. His remarks were “who the fuck are you to
tell me ho to treat these dumb Jamaicans”. He then said, “Niggers cant
even manage them self let alone their music. You niggers have bought
from slave owners all your life”. He then hung up the phone on me.
Why do we continue to support modern pirates like this?
Please pass on this email we have put a stop to racist attitudes like
this.
Thank you form the Lyric DVD Magazine family

K yo this guy lives in my city and no he wasnt charged I was just with him the other night. He was in a holding cell for a while I think….thas about it. Man what he does is what he does, he brings music to a very remote area where Reggae/Dancehall is sparse…but he also rips off artists and DJ’s by not giving them any cut of the funds….who knows all I know is this guy isnt getting charged with anything. It’s stupid to punish those who release artists music…isnt that what artists need in order to survive any ways…exposure. Everything was in his Rajs name anyways so he won’t have any kind of loss……
December 28th, 2008 at 12:40 pm
DVD’s CD’s Soundclash’s riddims audiomaxxx gave me an outlet for all of that. Now that is all gone! I am still searching for a website that can meet at least half of the demands this site could. Irish and chin, vprecords, dancehallreggaecd.com, and unitysounds cannot keep up. Why is it that everything in the Jamaican sub-culture that starts to evolve ends up getting destroyed in the end? World clash, WNWK 105.9 in NY, now this! Weh mi fi do?
January 8th, 2009 at 12:23 am
I personally think Raj is a crook. He made a shit load of money and didn’t give nothing back to the reggae community. Ok, So DJ’s got promoted through Audio Maxxx but what happened to all the reggae artists he stole money from in which the DJ’s use to make their cd’s?
Raj also sold riddim mix cd’s which directly stole from the artists pockets!!!
I was suprised Raj got busted by the RCMP and I’m sad they f***ked up. They needed to throw this guy in jail so the aboriginals can show him whats up.
Every dogs day comes to an end at some point. I always thought Raj would get shot before he ever got busted. Maybe he will still get shot. Only time will tell.
Reggae in Winnipeg 2009!!
January 12th, 2009 at 1:57 pm
Everybody hates Raj and Audiomaxxx.com but yet they all come to the site…What kind of shit is that?
January 14th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
i’m torn cause i know Raj, but also a reggae musician. i see nuff dj’s can’t find music now, but i also don’t think it’s fair that all the money is in the king’s pocket, while the artists aren’t properly compensated for their blood, sweat and tears.
Audiomaxxx isn’t the be all end all of reggae music. Reggae lives forever. someting will come along soon…. there must be another way for everyone to be satisfied.
what goes around comes around…….. Jah will provide, and karma will take care of King Raj
