Norway checks MS Fast Search & Transfer bid
p2pnet news | Products:- With so much attention on Microsoft’s hostile bid on Yahoo, "it’s easily forgotten that Microsoft has a friendly, $1.2 billion acquisition underway for a search technology company that is probably more meaningful to Microsoft’s business customers than Yahoo search," said InformationWeek in January.
Friendly to the company, possibly, but perhaps not to Norwegian regulators.
Microsoft’s proposed $1.28 billion buy of Norway’s Fast Search & Transfer is the subject of a stepped-up antitrust probe, says Bloomberg News, going on:
"The Norwegian Competition Authority began a 25-day review of the deal Feb. 25 and will make a ruling by April 3," the story has Ronny Turoy, a spokesman for the agency, saying.
"The proposed deal was already the subject of an initial probe that began Jan. 30" and the authority is, "conducting an ‘in-depth analysis on the deal’s effect on the information, computer and technology market,’ Turoy said."
Oslo-based Fast Search will give Microsoft, "tailored search programs for customers such as Deutsche Telekom and United Parcel Service," notes Bloomberg.
