Downhill Battle Labs -
p2pnet.net News:- The folks over at Downhill Battle have been uncharacteristically quiet of late.
And here’s why.
They’ve just launched Downhill Battle Labs, “a new home for all our software projects,” co-founder Nicholas Reville told p2pnet.
“It’ll get things organized and focused. We’re working on projects that help us organize better and things that push filesharing in useful directions.”
Everything is, of course, free and open-source.
Below are a couple of examples:
Battle Cart
We’ve created the simplest, most user friendly shopping cart that we know of. With a PayPal account, you can start selling things on a website in just a few minutes. Same screen catalog and cart keeps things anti-tedious. The system also tracks sales and makes it easy to print out shipping labels for orders. It’s saved us a ton of time. You can see how the front-end looks and works in the Downhill Battle Postal Department.
Status: the software exists and works, and we have lots of ideas for new features. software, sourceforge page, and documentation coming soon.
Battle Torrent
Various projects to increase the ease of use and adoption of BitTorrent. The goal is to make BitTorrent something that everyone with a blog and no bandwidth can use to host gigantic files (’a 500mb video of my trip to the grand canyon’). Simplicity is everything.
Existing Pieces:
Our Easy Download BitTorrent wrapper, created with Nullsoft installer for BannedMusic.org, makes installing BitTorrent and starting a download easy for first time users.
Future Pieces:
Sever-side BitTorrent seeding to keep torrents alive.
Application to automatically make a torrent and a downloader, and upload them
Simplify setting up a tracker
Integrate all the pieces into a simple to install and use package
Status: we’re working to make a fully integrated BitTorrent wrapper with a smaller total download size. and we’re setting up a SourceForge page.
