Hulu hates Canadians

p2pnet news | Movies:- Hulu hates Canadians. And Hulu knows Hulu else?

Ad-supported Hulu, billed as The Video Advertising Answer, but also dubbed Clown Co, is now officially online.

Will it be a (the) YouTube killer?

A joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp, it promises, "Watch your favorites. Anytime. Anywhere."

p2pnet is based in BC, Canada and when we clicked on "Saturday Night Live: New Bravo Show" we saw, "Unfortunately this on video is not currently available in your country or region. We apologise the inconvenience."

OK.

The Simpsons: Dial "N" for Nerder is supposedly the most popular episode but, "Unfortunately this on video is not currently available in your country or region. We apologise the inconvenience."

How about NBA Top 10s: Top 10 Moves of February?

Same same.

But wait! This is a new service! So maybe they just haven’t gotten around to including Canada.

Yes! That must be it!

But, "I got a private beta invitation through my b5media email address," posted Mike Abundo on Inside Online Video.

He went on >>>

b5media is based in Canada, so it would be easy for some fresh-faced yuppie suit at Hulu to assume I’m in Canada.

Guess what? I’m now writing this post from the tropical paradise of the Philippines. Yup, you guessed it: I can’t watch Hulu videos here. NBC and Fox probably don’t want to piss off their international cable affiliates. Hulu just carries too much offline video baggage to succeed inside online video.

Not that I’d probably want to watch Hulu videos, anyway. Their limited selection of “premium” clips and episodes is pretty pathetic. Back to YouTube for me, you Hulu losers.

And this was written in October last year.

What he said.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

You act as you are surprised.
They had the same issues with DVD releases. They claim they “can’t” since they sold the re-distrobution rights to other countries. Though some of those contracts must be growing mold by now.

What I hear Hulu isn’t great anyways. Hulu hates the world, the world hates Hulu too.

What about proxying? Does it work with Hulu? Or is performance impeded?
