AOL buys UK’s Bebo

p2pnet news | Advertising:- In the latest corporate tie-up, AOL says it’s bought Britain’s Bebo for $850 million.
The social networking site, “will be the cornerstone of our strategy to transform the online experience for advertisers, media companies and consumers,” says paidContent.
According to AOL president Ron Grant, uniting AIM, ICQ and Bebo will mean, “There will be no other social network that will have that kind of power attached to it.”
However, observes the story, it’s a curious rationale, “since many social nets (including Bebo) already allow users to interact with multiple IM protocols”.
And, “who uses ICQ anymore anyway?”
Bebo president Joanne Shields (right) says she’s “looking forward” to bringing AOL contextual advertising, Platform-A and advertising.com “to bear”.
She was once managing director for Google Europe, Russia, Middle East & Africa.
