We want to be famous! say UK kids

p2pnet news | Celebrities:- Too many UK kids are more interested in becoming celebrities than in doing their homework, says the Association of Teachers and Lecturers.
“About 37 per cent of teachers believe their pupils want to be famous for being famous,” says the Telegraph, going on:
“They fear that many youngsters do not realise how hard their idols have worked to earn their fame.”
Role models include David and Victoria Beckham (right) and WAGs – wives and girlfriends of highly paid footballers,” says Times Online, continuing the teachers have put forward a motion for their annual conference this weekend saying members are, “appalled at the extent of the decline in this country into the cult of celebrity, which is perverting children’s aspirations and expectations”.
It adds: “This compounds the subsequent sense of failure, alienation and low self-esteem when celebrity status is not achieved.”
The story has Dr Mary Bousted, association general secretary, saying:
“Celebrities can have a positive effect on pupils. They can raise pupils’ aspirations.
“But we are concerned that many pupils believe celebrity status is available to everyone.”
