South Dakota to ban mobile flaming
p2pnet news | Mobiles:- South Dakota has declared war on mobile flaming, among other things.
A state law to be enacted July 1 will make ominous or annoying text messages illegal with penalties for violations including up to one year in jail and $2,000 fines, says the Associated Press.
“The statute will revise an existing law on threats and harassment to include not only traditional telephones but also cell and satellite phones, and computers hooked to the Internet by cable TV,” says the story.
It’ll be a crime to use electronic devices to:
- Terrorize, intimidate, threaten, harass or annoy with lewd language.
- Threaten physical injury or property damage.
- Attempt to extort money or valuables.
- Disturb repeatedly by anonymously contacting people.
But making calls will still be OK.
