"the Internet will become infested with spy programs which will in effect shutdown the internet to all but vested interests."

i don't see that happening...we'll switch protocols, encrypt, use TOR, build parallel darknets if we have to. the internet is designed from the ground-up to withstand nuclear attack. It re-organizes itself and routes around damage. The people that want to censor the net may have money and other resources, but they cant match the geek-factor. They've been five steps behind technology since the napster days. They just dont know where to begin dealing with the kind of minds that build a wiki so they can collaborate on strategies for defeating the great firewall of china, or construct elaborate sneakernets where people swap data on USB drives in meatspace.

I sincerly doubt that the RIAA will be able to levy the ISP but if they do we will boycott the ISPs too. After all who need crapy ISP such as Comcast?

"I try not to listen to their music; and I certainly will never again buy their music."

You don't have to buy music form them. Use the RIAA Radar online to see if a recording is indies or not.

http://www.riaaradar.com/

I use it often.

Also artists have begun to sell their own recording themselves. For exemple I just got a CD form the Phyladelphia Symphnonic orchetra directly form the orchestra association online.
NO RIAA not Vivendic/Univerdirty, Not Sony/BMG, not EMI no TIme Warner no foreign parasites in my way and no Hassle! And I am not financing extortions or other crimes.

The computer technology changed every thing.

Parasites like the RIAA or the corporation of scientology don't understood that. There is absolutely nothing they can do to prevent people from communicating with each others with computers. Even if Internet was completely taken other by a handful of rogues business, it will not change a thing.

First so far even totalitarian regimes such as North Korea has been powerless to stop people form spreading news via the Internet. There is Siphon, There is Tor, encryption, anonymisation, IP address can be faked, information can be encrypted applications can fake identity . . . With computer and software every thing and more is possible.

Even if Internet was to fall there are already few decentralized wifi client server applications that can build a decentralized WIFI network, without ISP! These applications can deploy worldwide and potentially replace Internet!

Digital communications is like an overwhelming tide that nothing and nobody can stop.

Parasites corporation such as Scientology the RIAA or the MPAA does not get that. They do their craps then they check the TV they control to check if information is leaking there. Bad luck for them! People no longer get theirs news from TV. They got their news from Internet. To bad! Every one knows what they are doing and they are fucked!
This is why the Boycott is still expending.

And As far as the music industry is concerned, we are the customers, we decide who get our money and who don't and we decided that the companies member of the RIAA and MPAA don't and this is forever.

I wouldn't put it past the RIAA bastards to ramrod some kind of "music tax" though, where they will stay alive buy levying a fee on people ISP bills. Of course the justification will be to "pay the musicians", but we know where most of the money will go.

Wow Jon, you seem to be more and more outspoken against the RIAA et al these days, and who could blame you? Good on you. It's good to see. I only hope your prediction is right, for all our sakes. I will never buy another CD in support of the Big 4 and their henchmen, nor any of their other digital products, including DRM filled Blu-Ray media.

Just be careful everyone, there is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal. What is now quite worrying is the potential involvement of governments and ISP filtering eg. France, Uk, Australia, Japan. Just beware these people (commercial) want to own and control you as a nice fat easy revenue stream. Governments - hell they just want control as most politicians were bullied school kids or school bullies !

So the saying goes - you can fool some of the people all of the time, most of the people most of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time !

I used to be able to listen to it guilt free."

you can do that if you choose the right artist/labels!

I'm proud that I can now offer you some of that for free to test out.

for example:

Oh and please should I make an error in labeling something "RIAA-safe" which is not, just inform me as fast as possible so I can stop promote them!

I am proud to say that I am no longer helping to keep them in business. I used to enjoy listening to some of their music. I used to have an extensive cd collection. It was stolen and I now have no plans to ever replace a single one.

The RIAA's lawsuits have spoiled my appetite for music because I know if I give them a cent I will be funding the next round of lawsuits. I don't download their music; I try not to listen to their music; and I certainly will never again buy their music.

I used to appreciate music. I used to be able to listen to it guilt free. Now, I think that even if the lawsuits stopped tomorrow, I wouldn't want to start listening again.

[/quote]Stay tuned.

But you already know what’s going to happen ……[/end quote]

Yeah, the whole rotten bunch will circle the wagons, buy off a bunch of judges, hire some congressmen and senators, etc., lobby G.W.B. to forego his oil interests for long enough to pass a couple more "executive edicts"
to save the "poor recording industry" and the case will be killed.

Then it's all back to normal. MORE INNOCENT VICTIMS ARE HOUNDED ALMOST TO THE POINT OF DEATH by the noble RIAA.

> Realist.

That's what make the internet so fantastic. Everyone can have a say. People are taking back power. We can all communicate now, and this scares the powers that be, hence the reason why they are trying so hard to clamp down on everything.
