China blocks YouTube Tibet video

p2pnet news | Freedom:- With the Beijing Olympics in the wings, China has blocked YouTube videos showing Chinese troops violently trying to put down protests in the capital Lhasa.
Prime minister-in-exile, Samdhong Rinpoche, says some 100 people died in the freedom demonstrations which started from March 10 in the capital city of Lhasa, according to Agence France-Presse.
The Chinese authorites acted quickly brutally to quell the protests, ordering demonstrators to give themselves up by tonight.
"Defying a massive deployment of Chinese security forces, ethnic Tibetan protesters unfurled their forbidden national flag and torched a police station," says the Ottawa Citizen, going on:
"Meanwhile, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, met with reporters in the mountain town of Dharamsala, India, and told them he was powerless to stop the protests, which began a week ago with a peaceful procession of monks in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa and have quickly evolved into the largest outpouring of rage against Chinese rule in 20 years."
Says the Telegraph >>>
China’s censors have tried to stem the flow of information from Tibet reaching the outside world and also block foreign news from their own citizens.
The government blocked the YouTube video sharing site within China, to prevent viewers seeing images of the protests and the army’s brutal response. Any internet search for a website containing references to Tibet had already been censored.
A Tibetan journalist covering his homeland from neighbouring Nepal, who asked to be identified as Lhuboom, said: "At this stage I think it’s really difficult in Lhasa to use the internet at all."
Stay tuned.
