Cyber cops gird their loins

p2pnet news | Security:- With a sexy logo and a sexy slogan, the “the global law enforcement community” has banded together to form Strategic Alliance Cyber Crime Working Group, says the FBI.

“CYBER SOLIDARITY,” it says.

“Five Nations, One Mission”.

The five countries are Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US who plan to “fight cyber crime in a synergistic way by sharing intelligence, swapping tools and best practices, and strengthening and even synchronizing their respective laws”.

Synchronizing their respective laws?

Translated, this means even more pressure on countries which haven’t so far been cowed into changing their copyright legislations to suit the corporate entertainment cartels.

“It all began in September 2006, when high-level cyber cops from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States met at FBI Headquarters and formed the Strategic Alliance Cyber Crime Working Group,” says the FBI.

“The group is one outgrowth of the larger Strategic Alliance Group - a formal partnership between these nations dedicated to tackling larger global crime issues, particularly organized crime.”

Coming in May, a three-day conference (again) hosted by the FBI in the US, “that will bring together legal and legislative experts from the five countries to talk about common challenges, differing approaches, and potential ways to streamline investigations and harmonize laws on everything from data retention standards to privacy requirements,” says the FBI.

  1. someone there Says:

Big Brother, ALWAYS watching you, and now with an extra eye…

  2. Reader's Write Says:

This means they will be sharing their information on citizens with each other. ie easier control of those who wish some freedom.
It’s a step towards a global police force which will have no one to check it.
