Sony hates us ….

p2pnet news | Mobiles:- Here’s an idea: load a system with junk and then charge users a fat fee to wipe if off.

The innovation is Sony’s which, as Engadget puts it, “has quite the history of crippling excellent, beautiful hardware with horrible, useless software”.

Its UX UMPC, “bluescreened on us the first time we turned it on, and crashed the first time we tried to shut it down thanks to all the bloatware on it,” says the story.

It, “appears Sony is finally seeing the error of its ways,” says the story.

But not really.

“Sony has the nerve to offer a $50 ‘Fresh Start’ option, which ’scrubs’ the machine clean before shipping it your way,” says Engadget, adding:

“At the moment you can only configure the TZ2000 crapware-free, but hopefully Sony will be rolling out the choice to the rest of its laptops soon.

“Or here’s an idea, Sony: stop trying to milk profits and start giving consumers laptops that actually work out of the box.”

Never happen.

  1. Reader's Write Says:

Sony are not the only one loading their laptops with crapware. Nearly everyone in the industry is doing it.

One way to avoid it is to buy a laptop without OS (do not agree to the EULA and return Windows for refund). Then get Linux or a retail OS version from Microsoft. In the first case - no crap at all, and in the second - only crap from Microsoft to deal with, and most of it can be disabled by editing the registry. In both cases, it is far better than the default craputer configuration.

It’s too bad everyone can’t be more like Apple… A new system comes with the OS, iLife, Safari, and iTunes. And that’s just about it. I think it comes with a trial of iWork and Microsoft Office, but they’re not installed when you first boot. You have to actually seek them out to get those on there.

  3. Josh Says:

Linux is definatly the way to go… systems like Ubuntu come with the basic Internet tools and Office tools, and there’s huge repositories full of thousands of programs you can install if you need them
